People are always saying how unlucky Romo is to be on the Cowboys and have had Jerry Jones as the GM/owner. Boo-hoo. He has been so coddled....if he had been on another team, he also might have been replaced already. And he sure as heck wouldn't have been given this last contract at 34.

There's, literally, zero chance that Romo's play would have gotten him replaced on any other team in the league. It blows my mind that people even believe that.

If this season taught you anything, it should have been the opposite of the lesson you apparently took away from it. Tony Romo isn't coddled. He's a great player, and they're trying to build a team around him to take advantage of that fact.

That's the fact, Jack...

If he had been on another team, he might have had more talent around him (that's debatable, but OK). But if he had been on another team, he also might have been replaced already. And he sure as heck wouldn't have been given this last contract at 34.

So how is Romo coddled? Sure he got his big contract. But so have many other QBs and other players that took the money and ran with it. There are other QBs that are way more coddled and babied than Romo. I think its the opposite. Romo gets bashed for more than any other QB I've seen. He puts up top 5 numbers. But he sure doesn't get treated like a top rated QB. Does the term "chocker" ring a bell?

Struggling to put a good line in front of him for a lot of his years really cost the franchise. The years with terrible defenses didn't help either.

Perhaps....but this is a bottom line business....and somehow that has gotten lost on this organization and many of the fanbase. I mean we are constantly talking about putting guys in the ring of honor with 1 or 2 playoff wins. I mean seriously, how many guys in the ring of honor have 1 or 2 playoff wins? I don't care about how "popular" these players are....this is a very unforgettable era of Cowboy football in my book. So blame whomever you want...but I would give Romo 2 more years....win or lose.

Unfortunately, this has not been lost on the organization. Their bottom line has been tops in the league despite all of their mistakes. Being as profitable as this team is without having to win allows the FO to continue along the same path its always been on. Jerry has learned to leverage the brand by keeping it in the headlines (good or bad) as opposed to sound (and innovative) football management....from the GM to the Head coaches.

You are right....and I have made that point over and over and over again. But what I was trying to say is that this SHOULD be a bottom line business that is measured by wins and losses. And LOSING has been rewarded around here.....at an unprecedented level. I like Romo...I like Witten....but they should get 2 years MAX....win or lose. And that should be it. We should draft a QB...and have him ready to start the 2018 - 2019 season.

I know what you were trying to say....and I agree with you to some extent (at least the bottom line is winning and losing)....unfortunately that is really just a fan's perspective (especially since this became a billion dollar business). Owners may want to win desperately but that will always be second to profitability.

As to who's job is on the line based on performance, I would put more of the onerous on the GM and Coaches given the talent level of this team (as well as, the huge gaps at certain positions). I would say regardless of results we need to start replacing our aging talent regardless of positions....Now is the time to begin the movement to our future QB (and I am a huge Romo fan) and it is time to move away from Witten (despite being a first ballot HOF type player).
