I don't understand why they let him come back for the two games if they were going to suspend him before the playoffs started. So now what, he'll be eligible for to play if we make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs next year? What exactly is a year long suspension? Is it by date? Or will it be the entire 2017 season including playoffs?

Remember this fellas. Look at all the other players who have to wait forever to hear something from there hearing. Funny how this is coming up so fast

Yet you still have folks here that state the NFL or rather Goddell/Mara are not pulling the strings against the Cowboys. How much more evidence do they need? Brady, Bell, the Salary Cap BS in an uncapped year, Josh brown suspended 1 game, yet Hardy suspended 4 games. I mean come on it's so obvious at this point.

And this is Gregory's fault, remember. And not the league's.

Yes.

Randy Gregory has a problem and hasn't got a handle on it yet.

However, that doesn't mean the NFL is handling his case appropriately.

Gregory is going to miss a minimum of one calendar year because of a missed drug test. He will not be allowed to have any contact with the team except to come in whenever a drug screening is ordered.

Randy will have to pass every test going forward while also following every other aspect of his treatment program if he hopes to be reinstated in the future.

All this for smoking weed.

I'm not happy with Gregory for being unable to kick the habit so far, but at least he's trying, and the punishment is overkill.

Meanwhile, Michael Floyd is free to play football with the New England Patriots after being found asleep at a traffic light with a blood alcohol level over .21
last month in Arizona.

It's bizarre.

I heard some speculation on radio last week that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys actually talked the NFL into allowing Randy Gregory to play the final two games. The reasoning was that giving Gregory a brief taste of what it's like to play football again might help him overcome his drug habit in the long run.

I just hate how heavy handed the NFL is being in this matter.

So now what, he'll be eligible for to play if we make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs next year?

It's a minimum suspension of one calendar year (365 days).

But it only end when/if Roger Goodell decides to reinstate Randy Gregory.

First off, Gregory will have to pass every drug screening going forward and not miss any of them. However, Randy must also follow every other condition in set forth in his treatment program to the letter.

He must be perfect.

Do all that, and Goodell will reinstate Gregory whenever he decides the time is appropriate.

The only positive during this nonsense is Randy's contract will toll. He didn't get credit for this season and the same holds true for next season.

So, in the event Gregory is reinstated for the 2018 season, he will still have three seasons remaining on his rookie contract.

No doubt, the league's escalating policy for marijuana violations is ridiculous. Like, embarrassingly so. That said, it's policy. If you want to play, you have to follow it.

It's also much more lenient than the policy in the old CBA.

Still, there's a lot of room for improvement.

A 10 game suspension for reportedly missing a test when he's being screened up to 10 times in a month is ridiculous.

A minimum one calendar year suspension for a second missed test is even more egregious.

If the only offense is marijuana and Randy Gregory hasn't actually failed a drug screening since the initial 4 game suspension, it's just too much.

Nothing new here. When was the last time a player outright won an appeal? Even a reduction in games at this point doesn't help us any.

And this is Gregory's fault, remember. And not the league's.

Outright? Not sure.

But LeVeon Bell had his sentence reduced earlier this year, committing the same infraction.

Wasn't expecting Gregory to win the appeal unless the story of him being in a legit rehab facility were true.

Yeah, but facing a year, even a reduction takes him out for the playoffs, right? So it'd help for next year, but that's a lifetime away right now.
