Why does Jerry Jones continue to talk about Tony Romo? The way the Cowboys owner has gone about this creates a debate publicly where one doesn't exist privately. What's the point?

Set aside for a moment whether Jones is right or wrong to go about it this way. Let's focus on why he's doing it and try to read between the lines.

Here's my interpretation.

One: When Jones rhapsodizes about what a story it would be, "one for the ages" if Romo returns to the field at some point this season to help this team win the Super Bowl, he's not looking for a way to replace Dak Prescott or dismiss what the rookie quarterback has accomplished. He's looking for a way to make Romo feel like a part of what's happening.

I think Jerry feels guilty for the staff putting Romo aside when healthy and wants to somehow make it up to him.

So, is that what this 'incognito mode' is I've been hearing so much about?

Google Chrome calls their private browsing option "incognito". Other browsers may have a similar feature, but call it something else.

When the head coach and the Owner say two different things, it's pretty sad. If I'm GM, I want to be on the same page as my head coach. Now this theory may be right, but why say it? Just say it in private to Romo.
Go with Dak, get behind the guy for once. We need all involved to get behind Dak, except the Romo lovers, they can stay where they're at, in a hole. But the rest of us need to get behind our QB and root this guy on as far as he can take us. We've already witnessed the other QB and how those years ended.

Here is the issue...we should NOT be talking about a Super Bowl publicly. We should be talking about Tampa Bay!!!! Jerry is constantly talking about something that has alluded us for 20 years...as if the steps in between are a GIVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pretending to have no idea what 'incognito' mode was to make me seem wholesome and family-friendly.

In reality, we all know I spend hours and hours in private windows, browsing left-handed through the dark corners of the internet with cookies off. And we all know what I"m doing with that time....
Shopping for Christmas gifts for my wife and kids. And holding my wallet. Because otherwise those retargeting campaigns can spoil Christmas. Right?

What did you think I was getting at?

When you're trying to find hidden logic into what Jerry Jones says you are participating in an exercise of futility.
Exactly...thumbs up on this one...I wouldn't ever put Jones down as some allegorical genius. Jones is hedging because of the information he is hearing behind the scenes within the organization...namely that Prescott may be leaving plays on the field...plays that Romo would certainly see, given his experience reading defenses and his time in the current offense. Nobody cared about this as long as the team was winning...but after two lackluster games, Jones is growing a bit uneasy with the situation...as are many veterans here.

They got behind him...that's why he is still the starter and not Romo. The problem is that he is showing signs of "possible" regression...something the coaching staff and others within the organization thought wasn't a big deal...because of the winning streak. If the final sentence is somehow proffered to mean that the organization and fans were never behind Romo winning a Superbowl I don't see any truth in it.

Jones should definitely stay quiet on this issue, but that doesn't mean that there aren't others who "quietly" support a "possible" switch to Romo if the doldrums continue.

As for Romo lovers in a hole...this type of puerile, pejorative nonsense misses the central premise for still supporting a "possible" switch...namely experience, familiarity and recognition. Experience in playoff games, familiarity with the offense/playbook and defensive recognition/adjustment pre-snap.

That said, even as a supporter of a possible switch, I think that it might be too little too late to get Romo to a playoff level, having not played a regular season game since last year. We hear (publicly) how unfair it would be to remove Prescott from being starter...but I have failed to hear too much about the unfairness of Romo losing his position because of injury.
