Lawrence has flashed time and time again, consistency - mostly just in staying on the field - has been the issue.

The talent is obviously there.

I agree. With the DL, flashing isn't the issue. DLaw has flashed, Crawford has flashed, Irving has flashed, Collins looks good, but needs to improve against the run, we need guys that will be consistently play makers week in and week out.

Do the Cowboys need to draft a quarterback in April?

Kristi Scales: It's would be a good thing to do (the way Ron Wolf did in Green Bay all those years), especially with uncertainty at backup QB in 2017.
For 11 years from 1991-2001 Wolf drafted:

1992 Ty Detmer 9th round
1993 Mark Brunell 5th round
1995 Jay Barker 5th round
1996 Kyle Wachholtz 7th round
1997 Ron McAda 7th round
1998 Matt Hasselbeck 6th round
1999 Aaron Brooks 4th round

7 QB's none higher than 4th round. So does he deserve all the credit he gets for drafting those QB's? Perhaps some because Brunell and Hasselbeck spent many years in the league but the rest of those guys are scrubs.

Well my question would be how many players from 2015 made big leaps in 2016 ??????
only 1, mo did, then he got hurt and that was end of that.
funny how he rises up in a contract year ??

David Irving, Damien Wilson, Byron Jones, and Chaz Green until he got hurt.

Derrick Brooks says that Rod Marinelli has encouraged him to come work with some of the players on the Cowboys. He's going to. Sweet.

I think @xwalker had it right. A key FA could really make the difference in how these guys are perceived.

Give the Cowboys a guy like Poe, and Collins probably thrives. Or give us someone that can command a double team at RDE and Irving probably thrives.

I'm about ready to sacrifice opportunity cap space on offense to get a guy like that.
Poe would be cool but I don't think they would sign him. He can rush the passer as a 1tech DT with both quickness and a lot of power.

Yeah I don't think they'd sign him either. He'll probably cost too much and he's not exactly the kind of guy Rod loves.

I'm hoping they're inspired by the effect Snacks Harrison had on the Giants DL since they're largely the same kind of player.

Anyway, I'll be disappointed if they don't even bring him in for a visit, assuming he becomes available.

no I knew that was last year of old contract, but he was out with injury for most of 2015.
True... but he was kinda out a sizeable chunk this year too. I don't think the "contact year" label fits Claiborne as it's a suggestion that the player could play harder if he really wanted to. That he's lazy, selfish and just playing well when it counts for his bank account. I think that the 'oh he's in a contract year" is tossed around too easily and it's often misplaced. Sure, there are examples that seem to fit. I think you could say that DeMarco Murray gave it some extra effort in his contract year and you could possible say the same about Bruce Carter. But I do think throwing out that insult to Claiborne (who clearly wants to compete at a high level) is wrong.

Yes, Snacks was a great addition for the Giants. Poe has more raw talent than Snacks.

what is with Marinelli's obsession with having two 3 tech DTs playing together?
does the "speed" make up for the lack of a "wall"?
