Matt Cassel was unable to lead the Cowboys to a win in his four starts in Romo's absence earlier this year. But with Romo done for the season, it appears that Cassel will get five more chances.
The Cowboys traded for the veteran quarterback in late September, which didn't allow him the benefit of learning the team's offense in offseason workouts and training camp. Jerry Jones said Friday morning that he thinks Cassel would've had more success in his previous starts had he had that preparation.
"Now he's gotten the benefit of being here all of this time playing in the games, and he will be able to do more, we'll be able to do more with our offense," Jones said. "We can plan on that. He's very capable, we were very fortunate he was available to us when Tony went down."
Cassel threw four touchdown passes and five interceptions in his four starts. In relief of Romo on Sunday, Cassel completed 13 of 19 passes for 93 yards, with a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion pass.
