Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel (16) talks to Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen (69) after their game on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Cowboys lost 33-14. (Ashley Landis/The Dallas Morning News)

Matt Cassel was unable to lead the Cowboys to a win in his four starts in Romo's absence earlier this year. But with Romo done for the season, it appears that Cassel will get five more chances.

The Cowboys traded for the veteran quarterback in late September, which didn't allow him the benefit of learning the team's offense in offseason workouts and training camp. Jerry Jones said Friday morning that he thinks Cassel would've had more success in his previous starts had he had that preparation.

"Now he's gotten the benefit of being here all of this time playing in the games, and he will be able to do more, we'll be able to do more with our offense," Jones said. "We can plan on that. He's very capable, we were very fortunate he was available to us when Tony went down."

Cassel threw four touchdown passes and five interceptions in his four starts. In relief of Romo on Sunday, Cassel completed 13 of 19 passes for 93 yards, with a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion pass.

JJ you delusional fool. I guess he is going lay on the sword with this screw up. He gotta find a way to sell tickets to fans. Truth be told you should have played Moore over a month ago.

Just using the term "prolonged exposure" is enough to give our head coach a melanoma scare.

Someone check his freckles.

prolonged exposure to the offense.........?? who would say that??
how about as a starting qb now he will get better each week.

Cassel looked good, but it was garbage time.
he might be able to beat wash, one time and then buff or jets.
but winning now is kinda stupid.
I would rather see moore play.

George: Reality check, misfire at backup quarterback the first thing in Jerry Jones' rearview mirror
  • Babe Laufenberg: If Cowboys collapse, Kellen Moore needs a look
  • 'Frustrated' Cowboy Morris Claiborne: I'll be ready for Washington

Even I know its a run when Whitehead motions and then sets up right behind the lineman
