Dallas Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones (31) appears to intercept a tipped second-quarter pass, but official ruled the pass incomplete in a controversial call during the Dallas Cowboys versus the New York Giants NFL football game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, October 25, 2015. (Louis DeLuca/The Dallas Morning News)

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said during his Tuesday morning radio interview that cornerback Morris Claiborne is "probably out" for Thursday's game.

Claiborne has been dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of Sunday's game in Miami.

"Obviously it's a negative for him not to be there but those hamstrings are just a kind of a evaluate as you go," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM]. "That's why you don't just say he's out. On the other hand, you got to probably be conservative with a hamstring. We got a lot of football left to play, we hope."

Rookie defensive back Byron Jones will again start at outside corner in Claiborne's place. The first-round pick rolled his right ankle in the final minute Sunday but said Monday that he's fine.

"He has exceeded expectations," Jerry Jones said. "He really does give us a chance because he just understands everything so well. He's just very intuitive. Apart from being book smart, he's very intuitive, football intuitive, which can be different, too. Of course, he's got the athletic ability to go with it."

So far, the rookie CB class has looked tremendous with a number of really players standing out:
  • Marcus Peterson (KC) -- Has looked great in the games I've seen him play. Has 4 interceptions
  • Byron Jones (Dallas) -- Has flashed outstanding potential at slot CB / FS. In particular has done well covering big time TEs
  • Demaryius Randall (GB) -- Likes Jones a converted safety who has played very well as a man CB
  • Ronald Darby (Buffalo) -- Really really physical CB (50 tackles already) and has played very well in coverage in the games I've seen

About the only one who's struggled in that top group has been the first one taken. Trae Waynes has struggled a bit early with the Vikes.

Ready for Byron Jones to learn to turn his head around and make a play on the ball when covering receivers.

He has been excellent at covering the tight ends but has been beaten on the deep balls. This showed up in preseason also.

Not rushing Carr out until a real replacement is on the roster.

Ready to move on from Carr and Mo.

Mo should Man-up. He's playing for a contract and doesn't have much to lose. I disagree with the conservative talk. He needs to show he can play through some adversity. Somethjng he's never done in the past.. Take some notes from Tony and Dez and show some freekin desire!!!

I'm hoping Cam spends an absorbent amount of time on his back. So it don't matter who's playing in the defensive backfield.

Very bad news. I was counting on Jones to cover their TE. Leaving that to the three stooges safeties is not going to go well.

Doctor's have to clear him. Not up to him or his desire.

Obviously you meant Peters who has been very good.

I was worried about Darby going into the draft, but he looks like a gem if he stays right. Real good player.

Very good class indeed.

Ronald Darby & Marcus Peters were my 2 favorite CB's from the past draft...though was concerned with Peters a bit character wise, coach issues, etc.

Darby: 50 tackles, 18 passes defensed, 2 Int's

Peters: 42 tackles, 14 passes defensed, 4 Int's, 1 TD

What's impressive about Byron Jones, is that they have asked him to play all over...and despite being beat a couple times against Miami, he's done pretty well. Like his versatility & intelligence. He could potentially be a rangy safety...capable of covering large chunks in a hurry & dropping down to cover a TE, etc...similar to how Woody used to do. Devin McCourty comes to mind a bit as well.

I'm curious if the injury preceded the incredible butt kicking he was getting at the hands of that rookie QB,,, seems like he came up lame afterwards. Either way, I think he's done here at any price.

I like Jones a lot better at safety. Real nice mix of size and range. At corner he looks a little too stiff and he's not a true ballhawk.

I watched Jones some (not a lot, I have to admit) up here when he played at UConn and of course all of his Cowboys games. I think he can be a Pro Bowl safety. At corner, he can be just okay.
