RLINGTON -- Entering this weekend, only four quarterbacks in Dallas Cowboys franchise history had thrown for 400-or-more yards in a game. On Sunday afternoon, Kellen Moore became the fifth.

Moore completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 435 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a losing effort. The 34-23 loss to the Washington Commanders dropped the Cowboys to 4-12 on the season.

But Moore impressed the right person.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said after the game that "unequivocally, yes" he thinks Moore is capable of being Tony Romo's backup in 2016.

"What I like is his ability to put a bad play behind him, and then I like his instincts," Jones said. "[Offensive coordinator] Scott Linehan is right. He has something that's very special, and so we have him and we want to go forward and try to develop his contribution to us winning."

Jones added: "I think he's got the potential to be a winning No. 2. I think he can ultimately win games in the NFL."

JJ throwing up smokescreen so he can assess whether to pull trigger on QB in early rounds this year. Does Moore deserve another invite back. Yes, he at least looks like he wants to win, and passing for 400+ yards with some drops tells me he can at least be a #3 option.

I thought Moore looked promising but I dislike the organization's apparent penchant for making such determinations without bringing adequate competition to ensure that positions are competently filled.

He might compete for the 3rd or practice team, but Dallas needs a real backup QB in the worst way !!!

How do we know? He played with DBs giving 15 yard pads yesterday. He should compete for third team.

Jerry also had great things to say about Weeden...how did that work out in Dallas? I can't believe anything this guy says about talent.

Agree. Kellen to me is not the Romo replacement but he's way better than Cassel at this point looking at a #3

And JJ was the person that said Brandon Weeds was the most gifted passer.

Invite him back to camp, sure, whatever. Can't hurt. But I don't see why anyone would be excited about what we've seen from him the past few weeks - three losses, very little in the way of points. And as for his numbers yesterday - please. He managed to pump up his stats against a team that had nothing to play for and was so far ahead they pulled their QB in the second quarter, then proceeded to basically play prevent the rest of the way. And he managed to turn the ball over a few times. If his presence has an iota of impact on the decision of who else will be brought in during the offseason, and by what means (draft, free agency), we have officially gone over the deep end.

Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Jensen........ quarterback guru Jerry Jones has spoken. When has he ever been wrong.

So, the the kid was so impressive in a garbage time, rest your starters, preseason atmosphere football game.

I guess the encouraging thing was how much he improved as the game went on......and victory became more and more unnatainable.

Loved how he thread that ball between the CB on the cell phone with his agent and the safety flirting with a cheerleader.
