Spent some time chatting with Larry Lacewell before practice about the Cowboys' prognosis this year.

For those of you, who have somehow forgotten Lacewell's contribution to the Cowboys - OK, stop all of the laughing and snide remarks right now - he still knows a ton about the game whether you think he was a help or a hindrance to the organization during all of the years he ran the club's draft.

That said, here are a few of his thoughts about the team:

* There are no bad football players on defense. The worst you can say is somebody is pretty good

* There is a lot of good depth on the defensive line

* Even if the Cowboys decided they wanted to upgrade their backup quarterback, there's no one to get. There are a lot of rumors about Chris Simms, but he's still under contract.

* This team has everything it needs to get to the Super Bowl, if it can stay away from key injuries.

* Tony Romo is a wonderfully, talented player who will win a lot of playoff games before his career is over

* Jerry tried hard to get a second receiver, but just couldn't make it happen. It's not the end of the world but you need a good No.2 because teams will double T.O. and take their chances with the Cowboys running the ball and throwing it Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd.

Simms may be under contract, but that doesn't mean a trade, and a cheap trade at that, can't be made pretty easily.

Great! So basically our defense sucks, we have no depth along the defensive line, Tony Romo will never shake the playoff bug, and consequently we don't have a chance to go to the Super Bowl.

Good news is backup QB position should be solidified soon and a #2 WR is on his way.

Sorry couldn't resist. The name Lacewell just invokes immediate retardation.

when larry lacewell says that the 49ers sent him a document about the 49ers asking the cowboys if they were interested in charles haley, and lacewell's reply was he didnt even know who haley was, right there was enough for me

lacewell went on to say that the document sat on his desk for a few days, till he was talking to jerry jones a few days later, and he told him about the document, and lacewell said jerry jones almost dove across the desk to get the document

right there was all i need to know about lacewell, thats why the cowboys had bad drafts etc while he was running the organization draft wise and presonnel wise

and to say there are no bad players on the defense, another bad remark,

there are just a few, not to many that the cowboys could upgrade on defense, not many but a few,

i have never liked larry lacewell, and probably never will due to that;

i wish him all the luck, i just dont want him runing the cowboys draft at all, or gettting personnel for the cowboys, id rather trust someone like ciwoski draft personnel guy or heck, even let jason garrett or calvin hill do that, but sure not lacewell

Even if the Cowboys decided they wanted to upgrade their backup quarterback, there's no one to get.

Aaron Brooks, he of the above average arm and scrambling ability, 80+ career starts, and 123-to-92 career TD/INT ratio (even with having played a year in *shudder* Oakland) is out there, free as a breeze. Until this guy's been signed by a team, I refuse to believe there's "no one to get".

lacewell probably said the same thing about reeves, nate jones on defense last year,

he also probably was the one that thought the cowboys could sneak matt moore the QB through, and we all know how that turned out; i have a friend that is still ticked off at the cowboys for letting moore go and trying to sneak him through waivers

sure lacewell probably knows more football more than i do, but you have to have good judgement, not be biased, trying to please your boss either, but telling the truth

Nice name, I had honestly forgotten completely about him. I know he had a bad year or so but he was a real solid QB.

No thanks. I live near New Orleans and had an up close view of how he leads a team. He isn't what I'd want leading my team.

AsthmaField, that's an interesting comment. I know Brooks had 4 1/2 real solid seasons in New Orleans, although his last one was a struggle. I'm curious, what is it about the guy that he wouldn't even interest as a 2nd stringer who may never even have to play during the season?

"Hey Jerry!"

"What about this guy?" "That name sounds cool!"

"Uh, Larry, he was drafted two hours ago."

Sorry, but I haven't seen Culpepper or Leftwich signed anywhere yet. They're certainly better than what the Cowboys have and I have yet to hear about a shred of interest in either. Why?

* This team has everything it needs to get to the Super Bowl, if it can stay away from key injuries. Like to Romo or Owens?

* Tony Romo is a wonderfully, talented player who will win a lot of playoff games before his career is over

* Jerry tried hard to get a second receiver, but just couldn't make it happen. It's not the end of the world but you need a good No.2 because teams will double T.O. and take their chances with the Cowboys running the ball and throwing it Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd. Tell that to the rest of the media who are now trying to convince everybody that it's fine.

Brooks had a ton of ability but a lousy work ethic and zero leadership skills.

And his ego wouldn't allow him to be a backup.

They should have a special tent set up to keep some people away from FO personnel, coaches and players.

They could put Rowdy and Lacewell in said tent. :laugh2:

The BIG question continues to be (Leading even back to last season), a 2nd WR...That's it, IMHO

Strange. I read that same article, and did not walk away with the same impression as you. Are you sure this article said this? I think your post makes it pretty obvious of your distaste for Lacewell. Perhaps you're stretching the truth on that article?

Name your "bad players" on defense? Who would you upgrade? What would you want to upgrade.. backup LOLB??

yea, that #2 is important....but, we did it last year.

We lost in the 1st round of the playoffs, again, last year. I'm not sure exactly what it is we did other then not being able to advance in the playoffs.
