We got lucky that Edwards had the dropsies.

But other than that they played a good game. We shut down K2 and the run so that is what shut down their offense.

I gotta disagree... at least about K2 and the run game being what they have.

Cleveland was passing for about 300 yards per game last year.
We shut down all their guys. Yea, Edwards dropped a couple but he dropped 27 passes last year and still had an amazing season. Like T.O., Braylon having a drop or two doesn't mean he won't come back to torch you later. We simply covered those guys and kept Anderson off balance.

It really was a great defensive performance against a team who likely ends up top 5 in total offense at the end of the year.

Add the fact that Jamal Lewis wasn't running like a man with a gimpy hammy. He was running with force ans passion but there wasn't any where for him to go.

they were missing their 2nd WR. Thats Edwards and Winslow and an RB who was only 50% healthy. And we had our hands full with both of them. edwards had some key drops.

We were missing Newman, Kosier, Spencer, Hurd, Austin,

and Barber for half the game.

Keep the excuses coming ..... we have just as many.

I haven't "Ripped" our defense, but to be honest, I'd really rather our D play like the Bears D played last night. With all the picks and money we've invested in that side of the ball, I expect them to be more "Dominant".

Now, I don't think they HAVE to play like the bears D for us to win a superbowl, it's just personal preference (and opinion based on everything we've invested in our D).

The Bears gave up over twice as many passing yards as us.

We rank top 5 in total defense and 2nd in passing defense. That is very impressive considering we were ahead the entire game and the Browns needed to pass. We gave up 10 points and their TD drive was aided by about 3 penalties.

The Browns are a good team and I'd bet that is about as bad as they lose all year and yes I know they play Pittsburgh twice.

We shut down a high powered offense with our best cornerback not playing.

A year ago, our defense got shredded in an offensive shootout with the Giants in week one.

Look how far the unit has come and smile.

Amen to that.

Most defenses can't tackle week 1 which is why you tend to see crazy scores. We simply didnt give up enough catches that require tackles to miss many.

Really. Just imagine if we still had Reeves and Jones

The score would have been 35-28 Cowboys

We stopped them but that was more because of the bad play by the browns then by domination of the cowboys. and to me i don't expect good play from our defense - with alls those talented players i expect that the defense carries us with dominant plays.
:)
It's edited, so sue me :D

Last year Cleveland was 10-6. They gave up 14 sacks on Andersen in 16 games, less than one per game. That denotes good pass blocking, so don't be surprised at the lack of pressure. Granted, DA did throw 19 picks, but he has a knock on his decision making; may Browns fans will tell you that, which is why there is still sentiment for playing Quinn in some quarters.

It's not about what you and I expect - in a year or two, nobody is going to remember much besides the score.

;)

I know during the game day thread I was in panic mode a tad, but that's because of last year and how we wound up losing. The pressure up front is most important to me, and I just didn't think we put enough pressure on at times, but we have a full year and I believe we will eventually be consistant up front in rushing the QB.

The pressure up the middle is a key for this defense. Wade and them need to start brining more pressure up the middle or our NTs gotta start getting penetration. Its more than just Ware and Ellis.

I think people said they played poor because we had like one sack and zero picks.

That's what most people look at when they look at the defense.

true, especially many on this board, all that they care about are sacks and turnovers

Sorry, I didn't see a dominant defense yesterday.

I did see a dominate offense.

The defense wasn't half as good as the offense yesterday.

The bears played the colts. We played a team that was suffering some significant injuries and only won 10 games last year cuz of an incredibly EASY schedule (and even then a lot of their wins were lucky/close).

You are flat out being a homer if you think our defense was more impressive yesterday than the bears' defense.

lol only place a team can give up 205 total yards to a loaded offense and people say it was an "ok" performance. tnew is a top 3 cb in the league and they were still held to 114 passing yards. spencers also a beast and was out. also if you want to talk about the browns "shooting themselves in the foot", talk about our penalties as well. if the d had played mistake free football they would have probably gotten 180 yards total offense...or less

you can't play much better then they played the browns, except for the penalties. get real

Color me a homer. Manning missed the entire Preseason and they were not 100% in synch either.

ONly place a second year backup could be called a "Beast" despite the fact that he's done absolutely nothing in his career so far to justify being called a "Beast".

I agree. The bears defense looks mean and punishing. Our defense looked effective, but not mean and punishing.

The Bears were very impressive. The Colts were missing their starting center. That hurts and Manning clearly looked rusty after missing much of training camp.

Dallas may not have looked as good as Chicago on defense, but they did look good. They looked very good. Better than in 2005 and they seem to be building on what they did last season. Hopefully that growth continues.

It was week 1.lol

Not to mention the Bears and Colts have history. They looked alot more angry about the game than the Colts did. There is a reason for that. You want to see angy defense? Watch closely Monday Night.
