I agree, Jones was in the 1st round before the combine on the Cowboys board. Great pick and think he will be able to defend the big WR's.

He's gonna shut down some big time wideouts. Deion who? Sike!

Seriously, I think we found a player that could potentially be a helluva CB in this league.

See, that's a joke you could have used if we'd drafted David Cobb. We're doing political puns here. And that last one was an Obamanation.

Machota: With 'Senator' Byron Jones, Cowboys drafted more than just a workout warrior

In the 2015 NFL draft, the Cowboys selected UConn defensive back Byron Jones with the 27th pick. Here are 10 things you may not know about Jones including his family's ties to the military, his time spent in government and a world record he broke.

La’el Collins and Randy Gregory have received the majority of attention when it comes to this year’s Cowboys rookie class. First-round pick Byron Jones has quietly taken a back seat.

While some might feel slighted in a similar situation, Jones is just fine outside of the spotlight.

“I’m going to perform my best regardless if I’m the last guy picked, the first guy picked, free agent or tryout guy,” Jones said. “I’m going to give it all I got; that’s all I know how to do.”

Reading a politically correct response like that from Jones wouldn’t surprise his college teammates. At the University of Connecticut, he earned the nickname Senator Jones.

“If football doesn’t work out for Byron, which that doesn’t look like it’s going to be a problem, Byron will be the president of the United States, one day,” former UConn teammate Max DeLorenzo said.

A bold statement, but one that makes some sense when you research Jones’ background. During the summer of 2013, the cornerback’s time away from football was spent on a pair of internships.

Is it possible Byron Jones just found out about 'Deflategate'?
  • Stephen Jones: Top pick gives Cowboys a Seahawks look
  • Barry Church: Byron Jones is a 'freak athlete'
  • Machota: Cowboys should be solid at cornerback as long as this happens ...

Will be a defensive Staubach.

Mike mamula

That example is getting a "little old". Firstly Mamula was a good college player and secondly the guy may not have been LT in the pros, but he he did have eight sacks twice in a five year career. Let's not pretend he was a complete washout.
The only team that picked guys regularly based heavily on combine numbers was Al Davis' Raiders and that usually related to Wr's who ran fast.

I'm sure Jones can lead a committee to Quash opposing QB's plan.

And the media folks are a bunch of GOOBER-natorial hacks when it comes to draft boards.

Yes so? He worked out well and maybe he showed to be more athletic than originally thought but he was a good college player. It's not like he was useless in college and people noticed him only after his combine. Mamula had 24 sacks at B.C and might have a decent NFL career if injuries didn't derail it.

Proof was asked for, I've provided more than 1 name, via an article. You can not disregard it, because you want to.

When he gets in the weight room, I hope he legislates from the bench.

Ouch.

Once he picks up the scheme, he will be able to send out Executive Orders to the rest of the defense.

What happens is some GM will fall in love with a guy at the combine and that is how such mistakes are made. Has nothing to do with moving up drastically on the draft board.

Yeah. I remember a GM that fell in love with a "workout warrior" in Dontari Poe. Seemed to work out well for him.
