Lol, yeah I was actually looking for a clip where Parcells discusses this subject but couldn't find it again. Surprisingly, he actually says he never bought into the idea of coaches being motivators. Said players were self-motivated but what he tried to do was introduce competitive situations whether it was two guys competing for a position or by comparing a player to someone on another team.

You often need competition. Some guys don't need it but it puts an edge on.
