It's his back.
Listen....they lie. It's a time honored tradition in the NFL.
The absolute worse thing Tony can do is turn his back to a rusher, if you bend those vertebrae forward with force you're asking for it. I hate to say it, but he'd be better off taking it in the chops and landing flat on his back.

Dustin Vaughn, from some small school, West Texas State I think? Looked pretty good in the pre-season, sort of a Romo junior, but against 3rd string talent. He's been on the practice squad but will surely be called up if Romo can't play. He might have already been, I haven't heard.

Vaughn is on the 53, not practice squad.

i think he also could have suffered a kidney or spleen issue from the location of the blow...similar to witten

I saw that knee to the kidney and I bet he is passing blood still today, as you can see a shot to the kidney will put you down,if not out.
Did anyone see that dinky pad that is to protect his spine from a direct blow? The man needs a set of kidney pads in addition to the rib pads he wears.

I'm no doctor but it looks like his right kidney area got connected with.

Tough to throw off your back foot when you're right handed and that side is feeling jammed up.

1 of the reason's they won't indicate a definite injury is because it obviously helps the defense prepare for Romo's physical limitations if he plays.

The 2nd reason as stated by other posters is that the Cards won't know for sure who to prep for as at this point. But we genuinely probably don't know who to start at this exact point since Romo isn't practicing yet.

Some have suggested that since we haven't picked up another QB Romo must be fine. I believe if Weeden started and then had to exist a game, then Romo would have to come in and bare with the pain. That's why we did not get another QB. It's not like a 3rd QB would be prepared enough anyways. Furthermore, Romo isn't on a possible season ending injury notice. It's a week to week thing as of now.

I'm not a doctor nor have I played one on TV, I have no idea if there is anything more than a deep bruise, there is a lot of speculation from the outside of what it could be but no one knows. What we do know is if he can deal with the pain and discomfort he will play. My guess is Romo will play.

I actually have played a doctor on TV.... a commercial lol! Anyway, question... I know my x's and o's but I don't know my equipment, er, at all. Is it possible to construct some extra protection for his back? For that area in particular? Or would it be more cumbersome and hinder is movement?

I'm sure there is something that can place over the area he was kneed in but if this is a deep bruise then it is going to hurt, but if it is not restricting his movements and ability to throw and he can deal with the discomfort then I expect he plays.

Based on the photo of the hit, I'm not so sure Romo didn't suffer a cracked tailbone.

They could have ran Murray with either qb and we had a better chance to win than 3 straight throws with 2 yards to go.

In OT, after the skins got their FG, we knew we could use all four downs to get a first down, until we got into Bailey's range. We knew we were not going to punt.

So I would have pulled the OLine aside, along with Murray and a fullback and told them, .. "fellas, we are going to run this thing right down their throats, play after play, .. four times if we have to until we get the first down."

"you will not have to back up to pass block, we will be plowing straight ahead play after play. You can maul the guy in front of you every down."

I don't think they could have stopped Murray from getting a first down/10 yards with four carries.

When we got 8 yards on our first down, .. I thought we might be doing that.

But then pass, pass, pass.

I think the OLine would have loved that, and would have taken great pride in running it down their throats.

I'll be honest, it looked like the had on a back and rib protecting vest.

So I guess I don't really see how it get a contusion through that protective plate and padding! Its not like the guy "superman kneed" him in an MMA fight to bare skin...

Is that low enough to hit his tailbone?

Doesn't Cam Newton play with a pad that covers most of his lower back?

I don't disagree but then if Witten catches the ball on 3rd down that is 1st and 10 and the drive continues.

The sequence of plays after that first down was sickening yet somewhat predictable. Would like to see some stats on how often we have passed on second and short in recent years...

Moore: Cowboys' words after CT scan suggest Romo suffered more than contusion
http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...suggest-romo-suffered-more-than-contusion.ece

IRVING — Raise your hand if you thought Tony Romo would play every snap of every game.

How many of you were convinced that a quarterback unable to practice more than four consecutive days in training camp, one who skips the Wednesday practice leading up to games to concentrate on core exercises to strengthen his back, would sail through the regular season without an issue?

Romo’s health is an overriding theme to this season. The only question was when it would significantly impact the Cowboys’ preparation for a game.

The answer is Week 9 against Arizona.

The quarterback’s status for Sunday’s game is uncertain as he deals with back pain from an undisclosed injury. That puts the spotlight on backup Brandon Weeden, who could make his first start in a Cowboys uniform...

... but no one is calling it a contusion.

That suggests the injury is more significant.

“I don’t want to get into specifics about what it is,” said Romo, who did divulge the injury is not to a disk or related to his previous two back surgeries. “It will be something you’ll look at each day, figure out a way to manage it and go from there.

“It has nothing to do with back surgery or anything like that. It could have happened years ago and it would have been the same thing. It’s part of playing football.”

Well they did say it was unrelated to the surgery. The hit may have tweaked his low back, like any other QB who takes that hit. Have you ever jammed or threw your back out and had trouble tying your shoes the next day? Inflammation is not structural damage but they are watching what they say because media and the haters want to label Romo as a gimpy back washed up QB.
Romo doesn't want that and either does Jerry Jones. The good news is he's probably going to play Sunday.

There are surely some Sherlock Holmes types there in the Dallas media & they will print what is really wrong with him.

Just bribe Jerry with something. He'll spill his guts.
