Look who's crying now...media is whining and complaining because Newman now suggests he might be far less accessible to them this season. Gee, wonder why that might be Calvin?

This Terence Newman-Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson stuff is really sad.

Newman is getting ripped on the blog and other places for talking about Romo's girl friend.

Late this afternoon, Newman talked to The Fan about his comments on Ch. 8 last week about Romo.

There is this perception that Newman took a shot at Romo and his girl friend.

After listening to the comments, I don't think Newman is. But he should have stayed away from it. Talking about a player's significant other is a delicate situation and how the public and media perceive the comments varies.

It's better not to talk about it.

Its evident Newman and Romo are friends. The two played golf together yesterday.

Simpson sent a message to Newman through Romo that she was mad at the cornerback. She wasn't. She was joking and knew Newman didn't mean anything by the comments.

"I was not taking a shot at Tony in any capacity," Newman said to The Fan. "That's the thing that's crazy thing about this situation."

Newman said Joe Trahan, of Ch. 8, called to apologize for all the drama the interview caused last week. Trahan, according to Newman, understood that the corner wasn't taking a shot at Romo.

"There was no story there," Newman said. "I'm pretty upset about the situation."

Newman said he might limit his media access this season because he's tired of how his comments are perceived.

Newman is a smart guy. Good football player. But avoiding the media is not going to solve anything.
"I think if he's making a big deal out of this, that's tragic," Newman said of reporters.

The entire situation is just plain foolishness

He needs to quit talking so much. He might injure a jaw muscle and be out 6 weeks.

Watkins has got a point.

Owens stopped talking to Mr. Blue Suit for the same crap and got some BS article from Mr. Blue Suit quoting ONE anonymous source 'who regularly speaks to Owens' teammates.'

And in 2007 before the season started Owens was NOT speaking to ANYBODY in the media as he was rehabbing his hand.

The media's response?

Oh, he's doing that TO GET ATTENTION!

That's the thing that's been pretty obvious to me with the local Dallas media and those two goofs at BSP...err, I mean ESPN.

If you stop talking to them then you risk the chance of creating a vendetta by somebody in the media against you.

Oh wait, what am I talking about? The media would NEVER do that.

If I was a professional player, I would never talk to the press unless I absolutely had to and even then I wouldn't say anything except some canned cliche crap. Its not hard to understand that the media today is not at all interested in simply reporting the news but rather have become infatuated with actually creating the news which 99% of the time means creating a controversy where none existed and then milking it for as many news cycles as they can. I would stay as far away from that as I could.

Why do I get the feeling that if there was a photo of that, some mediot would give it the headline, "Terence Newman takes a swing at Tony Romo with a golf club" ?

Nice try, Mr. Watkins.

The only "blur" in Newman's comments came from the business you work for and the NFL Network.

Yellow Journalism lives at the DMN and NFL Network.

Where is Rick Gosselin? Isn't the draft coming up? Shouldn't he be telling us how stacked the Giants and Eagles are and how the Cowboys can't compete with them next year. Gosselin wrote some good pre-game stuff last year. I'll give him credit where's it's due.

Days of Our Lives is holding auditions for writers. Some of you DMN guys should try out. You can create or manufacture all the drama you want in that world. Cat fights, backstabbing, ect...

Unfortunately, we only hear about the yahoos, the simpletons who suddenly turn into orators. The departed Reggie Swinton, Tank and T.O., plus Crayfish, Ellis and now Newman fit those molds.

Too bad the literate, introspective ones don't speak up. We all could learn from them instead of these orators and moaners and groaners. I guess money, indeed, does not buy happiness.

Having said that, I hoped all you probationers, hangers-on and the recently freed, passed a happy day in the glenn sipping a Martin's brew and maybe, chasing a lass or two across the hills.

Antother thing:

Newman wasn't "talking about" Romo's girlfriend. The way Watkins phrases this, could make you think he talked bad about her.

Did Newman attack Jessica Simpson?

I don't think so.

The only people who need to be careful are the people getting paid to create yellow journalism, so they can feed off their own manufactured "drama".

Hey, Calviln.

The only gray area that exits, is the gray area that the media (DMN and NFL Network) has created in the minds of the comprehension and analytically deficient. The guys that always like to pound on Newman are going to pound on him, anyway.

Coach'em up, Calvin.

I think players have the need to be very media savvy, esp. these days with newspaper and other media outlets having blogs where they can speculate on anything that is said and spread their ideas.

Things that need to be off-limits are teammates and their lives, coaches, schemes and other such things out of the player's control. They should make the focus their play, what they can do to get better, what went wrong or right for them, etc.

Even if their purpose is to compliment or come to the defense of a teammate, they need to realize that every word they say is subject to scrutiny and can be taken out of context.

In other words, the Cowboys need to give their players PR lessons. Avoiding the media completely isn't a good option; controlling what you say to the media is.

Do you every take a positive stance on anything? Newman was crystal clear. If anyone has "issues" interpreting or analyzing, it's you, lad.
