First let's play the conversation NBC analyst Tony Dungy had with fellow NBCer Dan Patrick last Sunday after the Cowboys lost to the Chargers:
Patrick: "Is their season on the line next Saturday in New Orleans?"
Dungy: "It really is. They've got to win that game otherwise they're not going to make the playoffs."
Patrick: "Do they have any chance of winning?"
Dungy: "No chance."
Why would Dungy, the cerebral ex-Colts coach make such a bold statement that would get back to the Cowboys and they could use for motivational purposes? He had to know it would be shown at Valley Ranch. He was a Super Bowl winning coach who knew how to motivate a team. In fact, we now know that special teams coach Joe DeCamillis played the Dungy video for the team on Friday.
Well, do you know on which network the Cowboys play next Sunday Night? They play at the Commanders on NBC, which is Dungy's employer. Is a 9-5 Cowboys team coming off a win over the previously undefeated Saints potentially a better draw than an limping 8-6 team playing a sub-.500 Commanders team? You bet it is. You think maybe Dungy was simply trying to fire up the Cowboys in hopes they win and help fire up NBC ratings?
Nah, too bizarre, too grassy knoll. Right?
