DMN: Rex Ryan on Ware/Campo

Ah, the old 'say the opposite of what you mean' trick. That trick fools everybody.

When do you ever hear a coach critical of another, especially a position coach?

Campo could very well be a good coach. But Ryan's comments don't tell me much because it's not like he's going to criticize the guy publicly, especially since we have to play the Jets in the first game of the season.

There's a difference between praising somebody and not criticizing them publicly. Ryan's comments tell us that he thinks Campo's a good coach. There's really not anything to read into it, and it really doesn't mean anything more than one HC's opinion. I just think it's silly to read that quote and infer the opposite of what he actually said.

If I could single out one game which I would miss the most if something cancelled the season, it would bt the Ryan vs. Ryan game. I think it's gonna be a goooood one.

IIRC, it was. Garrett was contemplating a position switch for Campo who, predictably, was ok with it. Once we didn't get our guy--I don't recall who the target was--Campo was asked about it point-blank and said it was fine with him and that he'd coach wherever they wanted him to.

I've been a critic of Campo based on what I've seen and not seen by our DBs. They give too much cushion and aren't aggressive enough. They don't turn and look for the ball. They play too much strip the ball at the time of the catch rather than intercept the ball. They give up too many big plays. They appear confused too often. They don't tackle well enough. They don't make enough big plays esp turnovers.

That enough for you? It's not all on the players.

Campo is a champion. He left Jacksonville and I'm not even sure that Rashean Mathis is still alive.

Mathis also fought injuries.

Like I said, he knows the techniques and how to coach them. But, that doesn't mean the players will listen. He's been in heated arguments where there were pull-aparts between him and Newman. They've been a dysfunctional group as a whole outside of the 2009 season.

Obviously, Wade had a lot to do with it. I get the feeling that Garrett won't allow that to happen. But ideally you'd want your position coach to command the respect of the players he's coaching without needing the head coach to reinforce it.

I just wanted to call Campo a champion.

He rarely does - with the game on the line. (Please, don't use the New Orleans game because that was a rare exception.)

That doesn't mean he's not great. I'd just like to see more sacks to close out teams.

Super fail

Does the sack against AZ not count too? Set up a 4th and 20 and should have iced the game..not wares fault we gave up 4th and 20

just consider the source. ware would have to make a dozen third and long sacks for him to think ware was great.

Please...for the sake of my blood pressure....let's not bring up Pasqualoni again. :)

One immediate positive is that there's no more Pasqualoni on my favorite NFL team and my favorite collegiate team (Syracuse). In fact, to top it off he got the HC job at UConn...one of SU's rivals. And my confidence is very high that within 6 years he will decimate their program...which was reinforced by the booster who demanded all of his money back and for his name to be taken off the practice facility after Pasqualoni was hired (and his son played for SU under Pasqualoni...so he has first hand experience).

Again, off the top that's a positive.

I have positive feelings about the Ryan hire, although he hasn't really proven anything as a D-Coordinator in the league.

I will say this, I believe the Cowboys will make the NFC Championship game *if* there's no work stoppage. And if there's no work stoppage, I believe they will win the Super Bowl by 2014.

Thanks for a quality response. And your view is duely noted on Pasqualoni.

I'll mark you down as 'greedily' anticipating good things starting this year forward...:p:

hahahahah someone downplaying ware's talent? We are talking about the guy that fractured his neck and came back to play the next week and got 3 sacks against a divison rival,.,give me a break dude. You never see Ware because he is always double teamed, always, look at how many times he is being blocked by a tight end and gets a sack. lol wow ragging on dware,,,wow..:bang2:
not fractured. strained.
but yeah he's beast.

Ahhhhhh boy, some people can be so blind and it only hurts yourself.

Twist, twist, twist. Some of you guys just need to quit trying to worry about being right or wrong and just listen to people who know what they are talking about.

I think since Ryan knows he is stuck with Campo he will say nice things about him; and Campo is a nice guy so It is no surprise to me.

Campo was a defensive backs coach in dallas during Super Bowl years, so what's changed?

These kinds of posts always crack me up. It's as if people think Campo is defying the wishes of the head coach and defensive coordinator and making the independent decision to play soft coverage.

Understand this people, Campo has some input, but ultimately he coaches his D-backs in the manner directed by his D-Coordinator and Head Coach. Heis not a maveraick doing his own thing, and even if he were the D-Coordinator and Head Coach have the authority to override him.

The fact that he has been retained is ample proof that he is not defying the direction of his superiors.

Hmmmmmmm Rex Ryan thinks Campo is a good coach/asset to the Cowboys.........

But but I've heard so many here say he's pathetic and needs to be fired. Surely they know more from sitting on the couch than some stupid NFL head coach.

Yes, we all think that Rob Ryan and Jason Garrett can indeed assess whether Campo is good and worth keeping.
