Former Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach spoke with 105.3 The Fan's Nathan & MDog last week, here are some of the highlights:
On Tony Romo:
“I’m a Tony Romo fan. Obviously there are people that are right with me and others that say Roger, you know. Well, I just look at it. I just have a feel. I had a feel when Troy Aikman came to this team. That’s the first time I had a feel other than when Danny White left. Danny White was a really good quarterback by the way, and I don’t think we had a quarterback again that walked onto the field, you said, "Hey, we’re going to win this game," until Troy Aikman. Troy Aikman was phenomenal. I think Tony Romo is a championship quarterback. He can take a team to a championship. He can’t do it by himself, but I really believe he can do it. I just see what he does on the field, the plays he makes, the throws he makes, the sense that he has to move in the pocket so I’m pulling really hard for Tony because I really believe he is one heck of a quarterback, and that’s a feeling from somebody that I didn’t say that about any other quarterbacks except for Troy Aikman. I think Tony is the right quarterback, and we’re lucky to have Tony Romo.”

On if there is any hope for Cowboys fans:
“I think there is hope in many of the seasons we’ve had since Troy’s days in the 90s.

I know!

it's just so crazy how much disrespect Romo gets by the team's own fanbase.
And the arguments are so hollow. Staubach said three things that should really sink in in
1) "he (Romo) can't do it by himself"
2) he's never said that about any other QB except Aikman. So Roger is not blowing smoke.
3) "he can take a team to a championship"

I listen to people speak all the time. That doesn't mean I agree with what they are saying. I am not specifically talking about Roger's opinion on Tony but in general, people say a lot of things. Doesn't mean that everybody has to agree.

Personally, I think the jury is still very much out on Romo. He has the talent to be a championship QB but he has not show, to this point, that he has mastered the game well enough to be considered as such. He still makes impulsive plays at times.

That is my opinion anyway.

That is just Rogers’s opinion and I agree completely with him on this.

Romo can help this team get to where they want to go but it will take more than Romo to get it done.

Nothing will draw the haters out quicker than a legit compliment regarding Romo.
Two of the worst pop their heads up almost immediately.:laugh2:

This is a Cowboy fan forum, so Romo fans chiming in should be expected. But why do the haters feel obligated to reply every time?

BTW, I do agree it's just one man's opinion.
It just seems ironic that almost all of the HOF QBs out there are in Romo's corner....and no, they are not in the corner for QBs.

Get him a functional offensive line, a defense that can contain the read-option and a coach that doesn't blunder away close games and, yeah, he can win a championship.

So you claim you are more qualified to judge an NFL QB then Roger Staubach?

This. He is a talented but flawed QB who can win with an excellent supporting cast.

Roger knows it, Troy knows it, Jimmy knows it, Emmitt knows it, even opposing players like Charles Woodson and multiple others know it.......

Yet half our idiot fan base can't seem to understand basic football enough to realize it.

Romo is not the problem. He's the only reason this 3-13 team keeps winning eight games a year.

This year's roster looks far more promising, and he'll get them in the playoffs.

It's frankly very obvious.

He can win with an above average supporting cast you mean since he has never had much beyond average at best

all QB need a very good supporting cast. I don't know of any that does not need that.

GB, NE and NO are not void of very good talent on offense

It's just one man's opinion on the play of our QB...but that one man is a HoF QB in his own right. Can we at least agree that his opinion is educated, and that an educated opinion is better than an uneducated one? I hope so.
