Roger Staubach: I think the world of Tony Romo; Dallas Cowboys will beat Philadelphia Eagles

Former Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach spoke with KTCK-AM's Norm Hitzges this week, here are some of the highlights:

On if the Cowboys will beat the Eagles:

“If Tony (Romo) doesn’t play, I’m going to miss Tony. I’m glad we do have a good, veteran backup. I sure hope the season will end on a positive note. I’m pulling for the Cowboys, and I think we’re going to beat Philadelphia. It would be a great win. The Eagles played so well last week against Chicago. The league is matchups, and we have to get a strong effort on the defense, stop (LeSean) McCoy. We’ll still have some offensive weapons. I think the world of Tony Romo so I hope he plays, but it sure doesn’t look that way right now.”

On if Tom Landry allowed him to check out of plays:

“We had plays that we could audible and change at the line of scrimmage. There were y times where I actually changed receivers... I called the play in the Super Bowl to Butch Johnson, who was a great receiver. It was an in route. The play was set for the strong side. It was a 16 route to the strong side, and I told Butch to run a post because we had been watching film and saw their safety kind of hung in the middle when he had deep route responsibility. Butch said ‘no, I’m running an in route,’ and I said ‘no Butch, run a post,’ so he ran a post, and I saw the safety did not get back deep enough so I threw it, and he made a phenomenal catch.”

That is still one of the better catches in Super Bowl history. IMO.

Roger is like ......god........to me....

He is the reason I'm a cowboy fan.....period.

I was a kid in the 70s....didnt know what football was...

Grew up around steeler and browns fans, Old man loved the browns....

Didnt matter to me, All I saw every weekend, was roger freaking staubach, kicking butt, coming back at the lasT second and winning games......SUPER BOWLS.......

I think Roger is a big reason for bringing in so many out of state fans.....his contribution to this organization is.......priceless....

Even then, In the 70s, before Internet, cell phones....and Cable!!!! It was ALL Cowboys, I would see them in tv most weekends????? In WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA!?!?!?

Roger is untouchable. Did time in the NAVY......class act all the way. Even now. All these years.

Roger is bigger the AIkman, and even JImmy Johnson IMHO. Maybe not Landry. But it's close. They are tied together for sure.

Roger is the reason for .....a lot of what the Cowboys are......

Class act. And.......one hell of a Clutch QB, ....and, person.

He was to the Cowboys what Brady is to the Patriots......

Classic. Just classic. This is one of the things I am eternally thankful for.. That I got to see Roger do his thing for several years.
