This is one man's opinion. I think Elliott, McFadden, Morris and Jackson all have a role to play on this roster. Odd man out is Lance Dunbar. As for Jameill Showers, he is being given a chance to impress and make the squad but if he's not a standout he will find himself squeezed out of a job. He is in direct competition with Moore for the b/u QB job. I think he can win the job out right.
McFadden, Morris and Jackson are all the same kind of back. My guess is Elliot and Dunbar play their roles and Morris/McFadden/Jackson fight it out for 1-2 spots. If no fullback then you keep 4. I think Morris can lead block and perhaps McFadden might although he'd be lite. Neither one are optimally a FB.
Don't count out Rod Smith for that FB job. I think Jaylon would like to see his brother stick around if possible. As for McFadden and Morris... they are both punishing hard rams that can get the hard yards in a pinch. Darrius Jackson is more of the kind of RB that Dunbar is, if not better.

I disagree about DMac being a punishing type of RB. IMO, he is more of s finesse type of RB that is not made for this offense. The blocking scheme has to be changed last year so that he could run behind it. DMac does not break many tackles and he is quite easy to bring down. He has never been a physical runner. Since Morris is very good in this blocking scheme , I see no need in keeping DMac on the roster. He doesn't bring anything to the team that they don't already have, except the others are better. He has lost just enough speed to no longer be a big run threat and his injury problems will return at some point.
Tell that Washington safety McFadden isn't physical. That guy may never play again. He did lay some wood to some people last year.

Boy, wouldn't it be something if they traded Mcfadden, Elliott goes down and Morris takes over and is underwhelming or worse. It's amazing how many under value Mcfadden as an all around back. Careful what you wish for, just saying.
That will have zero bearing on whether Rod Smith makes the team.
I think the point is that McFadden is the only one who has any trade value, and he really is the worst fit for this system because he doesn't read zone blocking well. We had to adjust to more man blocking for him last year.
I think whether we try to trade him will depend on Morris and Darius Jackson. If Elliott, McFadden, Morris and Jackson all look capable, then I don't think we can carry all four and McFadden again has the most trade value after averaging 4.6 yards and going over 1,000. (On top of this, I think we're likely to have Dunbar on PUP at the start of the season.)
Now, depending on what Jackson shows, he could end up on the practice squad with us carrying Elliott, McFadden and Morris, then we could make a decision when Dunbar is ready to come off PUP who to try to trade before the trade deadline. Needs might open up at that point on other teams (or it's possible an injury here could lead to us keeping them all).
McFadden and Dunbar will be free agents next year, so it makes sense to look at their trade value if all of the backs are healthy and performing well.

If we get a draft pick out of DMC, what a move by the front office!
DMC showed a lot of last year. Professionalism, hungriness for the game, hustle... He has got a great deal of talent.
I feel bad for him, being stuck in Oakland all those years, during the time period he was there...
If we would've went to another team, I think DMC could've had a great great career...
