i dont think i want him either, because remember what commissioner goodell said, teams that sign troubled players or draft them, that the commissioner might fine that team or take draft picks away

and the commissioner hasnt suspended matt jones yet, he is due a suspension
i mean its not like i don't like him. its just he is too much of a liability.

No he shouldn't. The dude is always in trouble and there for he isn't even a real solution to anything.

to quote former first lady Nancy Reagan

JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS

keep Matt "The Great White Dope" Jones as far away from Valley Ranch as possibly.......in fact.....like the salad dressing, we need to become Hidden Valley Ranch.

Matt Jones career is all but over in the NFL, even though it's Easter weekend his career will not be resurrected with the Cowboys, what tangled webs we weave.

Another Cowboys option would be to sign troubled ex-Jaguar Matt Jones to a low-risk contract. There was speculation that Jerry Jones would go after his fellow ex-Razorback as soon as the Jaguars released Jones, a 2005 first-round pick who has had a disappointing career and is dealing with legal troubles stemming from a drug arrest. That hasn't happened. But the 6-6, 218-pound Jones, who has sub-4.4 speed, might be worth a shot if the Cowboys can't keep the guy they're counting on to be their big, fast field-stretching receiver.

The fan reaction from this would be almost worth the signing....

Its a shame Jones sucks, however.

Let Austin go and take the 2nd. Sign Matt for a song and see what he can do during training camp -- little to no risk.

Take the second and turn it into a good OL, ILB, or WR.

Why even bother with Jones at all? Even if he looks like he might do something he's quite likely facing a lengthy suspension, unless they've decided not to suspend him and I didn't see that news update somewhere.

Why bother signing a guy that quite likely isn't going to be allowed to play the first 8 games of the season? Didn't we just recently waste our time with two players who had similiar type of suspension times and got nothing out of them, really, for their low-risk deals?

No more of that. Don't even waste the time or the reps in practice on people like that.

I don't get the point that he's 'likely to be suspended.'

Why?

What new 'crime' did he commit to warrant suspension?

The issue with him drinking alchohol is between him and the judicial system with regards to his probation agreement.

He's already paid his dues with the NFL for the drug arrest.

No.

I'm adding this to get over the five character limit.

Actually, I guess I could have just added two periods to when I said 'No.'

Apologies to everyone. I'll stop typing now.

I disagree.

He had more receptions and yardage than any receiver on this team did last season, and that was playing in an inept Jacksonville offense.

If people are against it because of the off-field issues, I have no problem with that and can easily see their point.

He hasn't lived up to his first round billing and his off-field issues were too much for the Jaguars to take, especially given all of the other player issues that team has had.

But to throw out the 'he sucks' description at this point is inaccurate.

If he sucks, the Cowboys are in big trouble.

Matt Jones is not a bad player. He could do much better with expectations lowered and real team support. As a number 2 or 3 WR he could be a very good addition.

The real issue here is whether or not the drug issue is behind him.

I don't mind bringing him in for cheap and letting him compete (even if we keep Austin), but no guaranteed money and it can't affect the draft plan.

I'm with this idea.

You hit it right on the screws. Everybody forgets only draft position more likely to be a bust draft pick than WR is QB. Who was the last guy Dallas drafted at WR that panned out? Crayton a 7th rounder?

He has already been suspended for this latest drug bust he was part of? I thought that just happened this offseason. It would be pretty hard to be suspended for games for that when he hasn't even played in any since it happened.
