Who was the last guy Dallas drafted at WR that panned out? Crayton a 7th rounder?

We've only drafted 2 "WRs" since Crayton....and one was drafted specifically to bolster the return game while the other is a QB/WR "project".

We haven't drafted a Wide Receiver higher than the 4th round in ten years with the exception of Antonio Bryant...and he panned out, just not for us. When you refuse to draft a Wide Receiver on day one, your likelihood of getting a decent player drops even further. It's hard enough to find them in the first 3 rounds.

Unless we lose Crayton then I see no need to discuss it as it won't happen until then if at all.

He has already been suspended for this latest drug bust he was part of? I thought that just happened this offseason. It would be pretty hard to be suspended for games for that when he hasn't even played in any since it happened.

There wasn't a 'latest drug bust'.

He got into trouble for drinking, which was apparently a no-no under his recent plea deal.

It wasn't a drug bust, just a violation of the provisions of being accepted into drug court. The restrictions that were placed on him to get into drug court, instead of facing a drug conviction, are tighter than the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Now, Goodell could suspend him for bringing shame upon the league by violating his drug court terms and ending up in jail for three days, but as far as I know, having a beer or two isn't against league policy (if what has been reported is accurate, which I tend to think it is because if he had been "busted" for cocaine again, his enrollment in drug court would have been revoked and he would have faced conviction on his prior charges).

Man, you said that much more succinctly than I did.

The Cowboys want to keep Miles Austin, but the Jets can make that very difficult to do if they put a poison pill in their contract offer to the restricted free agent.

If that happens, the Cowboys get the Jets' second-round pick (52nd overall), and then what?

Todd Archer took a look at the likelihood of finding an immediate impact receiver in the second round.

Another option would be to sign troubled ex-Jaguar Matt Jones to a low-risk contract.

There was speculation that Jerry Jones would go after his fellow ex-Razorback as soon as the Jaguars released Jones, a 2005 first-round pick who has had a disappointing career and is dealing with legal troubles stemming from a drug arrest. That hasn't happened.

But the 6-6, 218-pound Jones, who has sub-4.4 speed, might be worth a shot if the Cowboys can't keep the guy they're counting on to be their big, fast field-stretching receiver.

Logic dictates that Dallas use the draft pick wisely if Austin walks. Ciskowski himself has said teams should look to build with A players as opposed to reaching for the B players to fit a need. If he follows his own advise the Cowboys should look to take guys like Brace, Loadholt, Robinson, Johnson from LSU, McRath, Chung, or Mickens with #51 and #52.

Taking a WR in the 2nd round would only make sense if the pick is not a reach based on need. The candidates mentioned above could have a significant impact right away.

No More criminals or distractions, NO WAY!!
I agree, and add to that, no more fumbles or interceptions. We could live without all of these things.

This guy here has got it right, so by July 2009 Matt Jones will be free of drug court and ready to return to the nfl. I don't think the going punish him for the beer on the golf course, because the drug court already did. Somebody going to get a good wideout at a low price. Jerry don't wait to late.
