We need Ryan Russell to step up this season and he needs it, too.

He might eek out another year here without it, but would almost certainly be jettisoned following the season if not during it.

Russell's getting some good reports, I hope he's ready.

Interestingly, if you listen to the BTB podcast @dogunwo posted the other day, they discussed a different player that the coaches are just raving about at LDE.

David Irving.

There's a lot of young blood on the DL.

Russell, Irving, Randy Gregory, Benson Mayowa, Charles Tapper, Maliek Collins, Rodney Coe, Mike Mcadoo.

A couple of them need to rise. That isn't asking for too much.

Exactly. It's why I have said several times on this board that I am not as concerned about the d-line as most are. We are deep at DE and really deep at DT. A lot of young exciting talent. Unproven, yes. But these aren't scrap heap defensive players like we trotted out weekly in 2013. Ben Bass and George Selvie couldn't make this team over any of these guys.

Agreed -- right now, it's just about potential and there seems enough of it to be hopeful. Anyhow, let's hope it materializes into something far more promising by the time TC ends. I can hardly wait for the season to get underway to learn more. At least, there's obviously no shortage of candidates at DE to pull for. If nothing else, it'll afford us much interest as TC awaits.

I was hoping to read about Gregory hitting the off season program hard and putting on some weight but I haven't seen that anywhere...
