motivation is a big part of life for many.... I guess you're not one of them..

Now we are all of a sudden talking about life? Lol

Motivation doesn't decide football games...

Some people have the ability to make valid points...I guess you aren't one of them

Playing football isn't life? Individuals are motivated for different reasons, and at times team motivation is very relevant...

Skip Bayless predicts 'motivated' Cowboys will make it to the Super Bowl

Published: 25 July 2015 10:49 PM

This week on ESPN's First Take, Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith gave their pre-training camp predictions of who will be headed to the Super Bowl this season.

Here is what Skip Bayless had to say:

"I'm going to pick my two Super Bowl teams strictly on motivation. One of my teams last year got robbed, and the other, I believe, got jobbed. The team that got robbed was my Dallas Cowboys. It was a catch - we all know it was a catch at Lambaeu Field...I don't need to beat it to death because they know (points to camera), that I know, that they know it was a catch."

Skip on the Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli...

"He will make this defense play at a higher level than it probably deserves to play. We know how explosive this team will be on offense. And I'll say it again, Darren McFadden will be a revelation this year because you will see just how great the line is. It can make a star, or near star, even out of an aging Darren McFadden - who i think still has a lot of tread left on tires that can really haul."

Bayless chose the New England Patriots to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl led by a Tom Brady fueled by the fallout to 'Deflategate.'

He also reserved the right to not select a winner in a Cowboys-Patriots Super Bowl.

I get it. He's a Cowboys Homer. The Cowboys went 12 and 4 last year and on paper, for the most part, the Cowboys had a good offseason. Granted, Murray is gone and his heir-apparent is not so, well, apparent, but the Cowboys addressed every level of the defense and were able to add improved depth on both sides of the ball. So, like I said, I get it; if you are going to make a Super Bowl prediction and the aforementioned conditions are being met, then it is understandable.

But I really don't like it.

He also says Aaron Rodgers is not that great of a QB and that Rodgers does what he does for drama effect. The guy is a fool and should never be allowed to spew his nonsense on the air. Unless it is an MMA match with Richard Sherman. That I would pay top dollar for.

They have a chance. Just hope they play better than last year if they get to the playoffs again. Seattle and green bay will be there no doubt so dallas will have to bring it the whole year with the tough schedule to even get their than battle 2 of the best nfc teams.

Yes that was motivation.
also go back and look at the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordon, when he playing sick, took the team on his shoulders, and won them the NBA championship. Becuase he was motivated to win, as all the world said he didn't have the surrounding team. He was motivated to win.

Jordan did have a surrounding team. People need to stop saying that.

Motivation is such an overrated term in sports

All 32 teams are motivated...Dallas isn't any more motivated than any other team

Have to disagree. Some players know if their team has a legitimate chance to win especially as the season progresses and play accordingly.

I really hate to agree with a Packer's fan, particularly in a thread with this subject matter... but I can't find any fault with your post.

Anybody who says Rodgers isn't a great QB doesn't know anything about football, or is just trying to be so inflammatory only for a response. With Skippy, it could be either or both.

Love the MMA match idea, too.

That's true. There are guys in the NFL who don't like the contact and don't love the game like many do. They just want the money.

The guys who want to win more than anything else help drive a team to success.
2.I agree that motivation should be less of a factor in the playoffs. Those teams all did what it took to make the post season and are always playing a notch above regular season intensity.

good points, I think that even though all teams in playoffs are good and worked hard to get there, one team will be the most motivated, want to win the most, and be more focused, and play their best.

look at the SB, I think Seattle expected to win, where as NE wanted to win, and they wanted it a little more than seattle, and maybe more players
were wanting it more. I think the int play showed that .NE did also luck out on that call though, but still they made the play when it counted.
GB and Dallas in previous years expected to win and they lost , after going 15-1 and 13-3.
They didnt have the right mental attitude and enough of the right motivation

About this year, i think the players now have more confidence, and now have the playoff experience which only romo and witten had.
They know they can win the division, and can compete in playoffs, and can beat the better teams.
So that will help them this year, but I hate to see people saying they will not only go to but win the SB.

I think they will be focused on just winning Div. and getting in playoffs, and first goal should be just to get to the nfc championship game.
Do that then worry about winning that and the SB.
The Divisional round is where dallas has lost 3 times in last 10 years so that is the round to get past this time.

Disagree. Motivation always plays a key role. Not the main role, but it's key.

I have hard time taking Detroit serious.
But really, they were 11-5, were one of the few teams to beat Green Bay, and had Dallas on the ropes at home in the playoffs.
At least in their minds, they too are a serious NFC contender to go with Seattle, GB, Dallas, and Arizona.

Skip is about the last person you want in your corner on anything so this doesn't bode well.

Did you ever play sports? While every team wants to win and compete for championships these athletes are human.

They understand what type of team they are on and what they realistically expect their team can compete for. When you know your team has legitimate and realistic expectations of a super bowl run that gives you an edge. It just does.

Humans aren't robots who are all programmed to give 100 percent at every moment regardless of situation.

This is correct. You can't say motivation doesn't matter, then also say someone only played well because "they are in a contract year"

IMO motivation is huge. Not the 'rah rah' motivation from a pregame speech or anything like that. The motivation that causes one guy to outwork another guy. Someone mentioned Michael Jordan, but IMO the context was wrong. Yes, he motivated the team. He motivated them to work their ***** off by doing that in practice every day and berating anyone who didn't follow his example. We've got guys right now on the team who improve the workouts simply by being there and creating a sense of urgency - Dez, Sean Lee, Hardy, Witten - those guys make the team better by motivating other guys to work harder in the offseason and in practice.

Michael Irvin was the heart of the Cowboys because of his ability to outwork other guys (even if he was out all night with strippers), and lift the overall level of practice by doing so and taunting, cajoling, and letting everyone else know that he was doing more than them. That causes guys to try a little harder in the places that actually make the difference. I don't think much of motivation during the game, everyone wants to win. But the things that guys do outside of the game, things that are driven by motivation, more often than not make the difference on Sunday.

Finding guys who want to outwork the other guy, and have equal or better talent, is what the process is all about.
