Cowboys director of player personnel and executive vice president Stephen Jones recently went on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan. Here are some highlights:
On first-round pick, Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton:
"He's just a guy who has a really high floor and a really high ceiling. He's a guy who kinda came on as the season went with Michigan. He's got everything you look for in a 4-3 defensive end without having to compromise anything. He's got the length, he's got the size. He was a big-time basketball player, he's got quicks. You look at his 10-splits and they're right there with some of the best players in the draft. We just got really comofortable with him and a handful of other guys, if one of those guys happened to get to that pick we'd pick him."
On the investigating the Cowboys did into third-round pick Jourdan Lewis and his domestic violence situation before drafting him:
"Well, this guy's an outstanding guy. At the end of the day, we did a lot of research. No need to rehash all that. At the end of the day we go what kind of guy is this overall? And whether it's on the field, off the field, this guy is a solid individual. Of course we did all our investigations, we did all our diligence and we decided, hey, he's not coming off our board. And we feel good about it. Obviously that will have to play out. We feel good about how that's going to play out. We have a lot of confidence in him. We just said, hell, we need some corners here. I think he can step in and ... I think he's going to make a big difference."
