According to Sturm, the throw to Witten that was intercepted was impromptu. The play was actually designed to go downfield to Street or Williams, but the blocking broke down and he was flushed from the pocket. It was just a bad decision, and really had nothing to do with him throwing a deep route.

He should have been smart enough to throw the ball away. No one should have to tell him that 2nd and 10 is okay.

Until someone sees the all 22 that will remain a question. On the few shots we saw from behind the QB it didn't look like there was much separation, and i'm sure Weeden was snake bit from his int, and overthrow of Witten

Would be curious about this too. If there were misses from his vision standpoint, I would understand the angst.

I do know that Quinn was very complimentary of Trufant today, crediting him for blanketing Williams.

He went down field three times all game. That was it. Could that really be the only times any one was open? He was either scared or the coaches told him not to. That's all I am saying.

I think coaches went into the game looking to protect the ball, I think coaches did not adjust as they should have. I'm sure Stephen Jones is privy to this info and has said the same. Alt adjusted and we failed to adjust enough to what they were doing.

How did he get spooked? He led the team the very next series to a TD. The pass he threw was not a deep ball it was a poor decision but not deep so now a shorter pass got him spooked?

That is true, they did score the next drive, which involved many dink and dunks with a lot of YAC. After that, he didn't do much.......I can't put my finger on it but it appeared to me as a tale of to QBs before and after that INT. Maybe it was more ATL dfense and their adjusted game plan. I hope that's the case and BW isn't that easily rattled. I'm not throwing the towel in here on BW or this team but to me he became ineffective and our dfense was gassed.

yes it was a poor throw, Alt was in a zone and Weeden was unable to drop in to Witten. Lucky the hit Witten took was not worse. So now you do not throw any thing deep because on that play he did not drop it in? hell if you did that to every QB who threw a high ball you would not have any QB throwing deeper passes.

That throw seemed like he was just scared to try to get it to Witten despite the fact that he would really have to under throw it for the defenders to get a pick.

Well that's between Stephen and JG, they certainly aren't on the same page.

Weeden obviously has the arm to go downfield it's his accuracy that's keeping the team from wanting to go down field with him. They don't want him to lose games. It's his history of poor decision making and throwing into coverage that makes the Cowboys limited with him.

So no matter how you say it, he can't throw downfield.

From watching the All 22, the dumps looks like it was by design/called play and not WeDone not looking to pass long.

You see receivers running towards the defenders and then start to block or receivers running their routes and then slowing down knowing that the pass wasn't coming to them.

Time to pass was on first down but the coaches kept with the run plays even though we were getting negative yards.

How can you have over 8,000 post and not watch the game?? Serious question

I was at the Texans game yesterday & so missed Dallas's game. I don't have my TICKET hooked up yet & honestly if I tape a game I can't watch & it's a bad loss I won't watch it.

I can keep up on here. I've missed many games because of work.

That was true a few times, but not on the majority of plays.

No **** Stephen thanks for stating the obvious even if our head coach won't.... By the way I'm still a Garrett supporter.

Weeden never game them time for separation, he threw the ball so fast the outside receivers never even had a chance to go into their break. I don't buy blaming the receivers. This falls on the coaches, especially Garrett. If he chose these players to be on his team, he should feel comfortable with them playing and giving them a chance to make plays.

You say he was scared about throwing deep yet 2nd play of the game he went deep so this notion he was unwilling or scared to throw deep is BS. If coaches feel he needs to be getting the ball down the field they had several min as Alt ran the ball down our throat to tell him that we need you to take some shot down the field.

They had so much time, I was falling asleep during that drive. lol

On most plays the All-22 is not even needed. Weeden had already dumped the ball off short before those 10+ yard routes could develop.

Most QBs aren't going to wait when they have underneath options open if the wideouts aren't getting of the line cleanly. Why not take the 10 yards to Dunbar and get to the next play? I like that a lot better than holding it for Street or Williams to break open and hopefully not be overthrown downfield, assuming our protection holds up, which it wasn't doing all the time in that second half, anyway.

The OL wasn't playing good in the second half.

"Our game plan was early, and obviously it worked real well, is we thought that we could work the underneath part of their coverage and run the football," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. "Of course, the first half we did that real well. I think you got to give the Falcons a lot of credit, they adjusted. We didn't probably adjust as well as we needed to. We probably needed to be going to the outside group [of receivers] as they changed and adjusted there in the second half."
