But he quit to take up football because he said he knew he would never get better at basketball and didnt like playing a sport at his peak.

Absolutely, JC! His pickoff move to first was deadly. His arm and bat were deadly. His footwork behind the plate was elite. His pitch-framing, elite. Best we've seen in the last 30 years, easily. And no roid rumors like Piazza had floating around.

Don't kid yourself, there are rumors surrounding Ivan. Best bet is that he never used them but there are a couple interviews where he basically pleads the fifth. He may be less accused than Bagwell and Piazza but there is/was smoke.

Aside from that, yes......he was an outstanding catcher and I have not seen a better arm behind the plate. When he played for Tulsa(ages ago), that guy picked me off 3rd base and I never knew it was coming
