Observations from late practice

Here's what I thought of the late practice.

QBs Tony Romo and Drew Henson had a bad practice.

On two straight possessions, Henson threw one pass at a receivers ankles and another was tipped at the line of scrimmage.

Corner Anthony Henry had a pretty good practice in knocking down some balls and Keith Davis picked off a Drew Bledsoe pass.

Davis looked great in practice and seemed to have a lot of energy.

Julius Jones put a sleeve on his right knee midway through practice. It didn't appear as if he was limping or anything.

Roy Williams was bouncing around the field but he looked a little gimpy, unless that's how he walks.

My man Keylon Kincade (SMU) fumbled during a run and didn't look that fast going through the holes.

Terrell Owens looked great in practice, especially in drills where he had to catch balls in different routes.

During a break in practice, Greg (Trade me) Ellis had a conversation with Bill Parcells in the middle of the field for about five minutes. At one point, Parcells patted Ellis on the backside during the conversation and there was a smile from Ellis' face. Also, rookie Bobby Carpenter handed Parcells' some water. Ellis didn't want to talk to the media after practice.

The Flo Report

Offensive tackle Flozell Adams once again ran on the side with strength and conditioning coach Joe Juraszek.

I still think he'll be ready to go soon, but it's almost painful to watch him run. This guys's supposed to anchor your offensive line, and he can't even get on the field.

He may not come out and say it, but I guarantee you Bill Parcells is upset about this.

Men in tights!

For the second consecutive practice, T.O. was the last player to take the field.

This time he was wearing navy spandex tights with no shorts.

I saw several players shaking their heads as he trotted onto the field.

Said defensive Chris Canty: "I would never do that."

My personal policy is to never interview a man wearing navy spandex tights, but several reporters closed in on him after practice.

Asked about being the last one on the field, Owens said he's been doing that for years. His selfless behavior continues to impress.

Parcells taunts backup QB!

When Bill Parcells wanted free-agent rookie quarterback Jeff Mroz to take the field, he shouted, "Let's go genius!"

In case you missed it, Mroz is a Yale graduate. He promptly screwed up the drill.

Regarding Henry - Good. He's one of my favorites.

Regarding Davis - He'd better be full of injury.

Regarding Ellis - That is very good news. I get the feeling that although Ellis is spending time complaining to the media, within the organization, it isn't about bad blood or anything. I've always gotten the feeling that he and Parcells like each other, I think he is just frustrated. I'm glad they are staying civil.

Regarding Keylon Kincade - Who cares?

The usual...conflicting reports from the media.

I have read several other places that Adams looks good, appears to be slimmed down. Now Mosley says he is hard to watch run. This is not a good sign.

Other places talked about this animated conversation between Parcells and Ellis, implying that it was a negative. This post makes it sound like it was good interaction.

One thing is unanimous....Henson is thisclose to losing his 3rd string job.

PS - believe me. No need to worry about Flozell. He is not one of the biggest concerns at all.

I like that this guy tries to hold nothing back; I don't like his "dirt" angle.

T.O. stuff
Wild day with T.O.
He signed autographs about three different times after practice. It's funny how fans can change on a player in a minute.
I'm sure Cowboys fans hated T.O. when he played for Philly. Now, that he plays for the Cowboys, they love him.
I guess that's fine.

Did he look bad? I'm actually surprised that we've heard so little of it here. Could this be the first year in nearly a decade that we DON'T have a major QB controversy?

Without sparking a huge debate - compare and contrast our backups, please.

And what the heck is a 'knell?'

I'm sure it was not left off on purpose but the following was also on the DMN blog.

Is Henson long for this team?

For the handful of you guys still holding out hope for Drew Henson's future in Dallas, here's some encouragement.
Contrary to what I'm reading in a lot of your comments, the Cowboys haven't given up on him.
Henson was completely deflated after the club pretty much dismissed his performance in NFL Europe. He goes to Dusseldorf and puts up respectable numbers behind a suspect offensive line. He also had a Frenchman trying to pick up the blitz.
Anyway, he came back home and apparently turned some heads at the veterans' minicamp.
And people that should know say Bill Parcells is attempting to wipe the slate clean and actually give Henson a chance. After last season's training camp, Parcells didn't even know Henson was still on the roster.
The one thing that Henson has over both Drew Bledsoe and Tony Romo is mobility. He's the best athlete of the three and can make plays when things fall apart.
The problem is that he seems to think too much on the field. Coaches are trying to get him comfortable enough with the offense to simply react.
I'm not saying Henson's going to overtake Romo during training camp. Just saying don't write him off completely.

Sorry death knell must be a UK term for 'a bell rung to announce a death'. from my view, I couldn't keep a close eye on all QBs, but so many times when I saw a bad pass or particularly wobbly spiral, it appeared to come from from Henson's hand.

Tony's passes seemed to be fine from what I could see. jeff Mroz looked excellent at times, and not too hot at others.

I just don't see Henson inspiring confidence.

I still say that unless Henson completely bombs this camp he ain't dead as long as Jerry still owns the team. He doesn't have a prayer with Parcells as coach, but Jerry will not allow him to be cut as long as he shows something.

Parcells will defer to Jerry's wishes on the issue of a 3rd team inactive QB.

Jerry will still be around in 2 years, Parcells won't. Jerry will be looking for Ken Whisenhut or (a longshot), Charlie Weis to make something out of Henson.

That's my take and I'm sticking to it until Henson is released. :D
