What would Donovan McNabb's departure mean for Cowboys?

Philadelphia coach Andy Reid told reporters that the club was entertaining trade offers for all three of its quarterbacks -- Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick.

Before this, Reid has never publicly expressed a willingness to trade McNabb.

A short time later, Donovan McNabb responded that he wanted to remain with the Eagles, but if the club is going to move him they should do it quickly.

It's unlikely Reid would acknowledge the club's intentions if the Eagles weren't committed to making a move. McNabb obviously has the highest trade value.

Citing an unnamed source "with knowledge of the team's thought process," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported the Eagles are looking for a second-round pick or a combination of high picks for either McNabb or Kolb.

Let's say McNabb is the one to go. No one can accurately assess what it would mean to the Cowboys in the NFC East unless you know what the Eagles received in return. But in general, do you believe a Philadelphia team without McNabb is less of a threat to the Cowboys in 2010?

I think he will be a better passer than Mcnabb, but not nearly the athlete Mcnabb was in his prime.

I worry about an accurate passer in that offense, if kolb has as good or better decision making skills as Donovan we are in trouble if he doesn't get killed by our pass rush.

I also think we have been playing Mcnabb since 99 and we know him, have played him twice a year for a decade and can control him. Kolb is an unknown and Andy Reid being so willing to start him over Mcnabb means a lot about how good Kolb could be.

drew bledsoe and tony romo

Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Schaub. The formula is there that a talented kid who sits for a few years can and does turn out to be good or even special.

Exactly. For the next year or two he will have moments of learning to go through. No way around this fact...

We don't know that he had to. Juging by how he exploded out of the gate (and has only gotten better), I reckon he easily could have started after 1 season of sitting with minor growing pains.

I would be quite happy not having to face Mcnabb two times a year. And there is always the chance Kolb is a dud.

Exactly. That's his point. The formula, meaning a young talented kid can sit for a while and come out of the gate and explode when he does get his chance to start.

I believe Kolb will be good but before that two game stretch eagles fans I speak with (Dave of Pwinsiderelite.com) said on multiple occasions that he is a nightmare. He even said it on the footballshow he did on pwipop.com Kolb may have just had two good games and be a bust. In that case, good. If those two games were not a flash and he turns out to be a good QB, ****.

It would just mean that the most that he can lose to us during the regular season is once if we play them...that's about it. :)

You guys are seriously insane. I'm from around the area and see his training camp and preseason reports all the time. Kolb will not be better than McNabb and we will most definitely not miss him. McNabb has had the veteran experience and (for the most part) has made good decisions. His TD-INT ratio is one of the highest all time.

That and McNabb was probably one of the hardest guys to ever bring down. Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy and am glad to see him leaving on that alone.

I'm very skeptical of Kolb.

So we man handled the Eagles 3 times last year. And we are supposed to think McNabb is threat to us next year.

I know, it's a new year and all that. I hope he stays with the Eagles. At least we know how to game plan him. Vick would be no better. Kolb is the unknown. He hasn't played a lot, but that's not to say he couldn't come in and be better. After all did we really think Romo was the answer until he actually played.

He might go down more easily if pass-rush gets there ( & they will) no more of that Mcnab breaking out running or hving 15 secs etc. Having said that ther may not as much throwing on the dirt from Kolb as Mcnabb used to do .

Kolb's trash. It'll mean a feeding frenzy in Dallas. No more scrambling around in that offense = feeding FRENZY.

I have never watched a quarterback more difficult to take down than McNabb. Ben R is getting up there, but man McNabb knew just how to slide away.
