NEW YORK — Tom Brady and representatives from the players' union are meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell at NFL headquarters as the New England quarterback appeals his four-game suspension.

Brady was suspended by the league for his role in the use of deflated footballs in the AFC championship game win over Indianapolis. He arrived at the NFL's Park Avenue offices Tuesday morning, as did attorney Jeffrey Kessler, who is leading Brady's defense.

The NFL Players Association had asked Goodell to recuse himself from hearing the appeal because he could not be impartial and might be called as a witness. But Goodell said it was his responsibility to oversee the hearing to protect the integrity of the league.

Based on the league-sanctioned Wells report, Brady was suspended and the Patriots were fined $1 million and docked a pair of draft picks.

Among the key elements of Brady's appeal will be about who ordered his four-game suspension and whether science supports the league's findings about deflated footballs.

The NFL says Goodell authorized the discipline that was imposed by league executive Troy Vincent, who signed the letters sent to Brady and the Patriots informing them of the penalties. The NFLPA challenged Vincent's power to issue punishment, citing Article 46 of the league's collective bargaining agreement.

Goodell dismissed the union's claim.

I would not be surprised if Colin Cowherd's prediction comes true. IIRC, Cowherd believed the appeal will be granted, benching Brady for the first three games and "counts" the Patriots bye week as a "default game week". If that scenario materializes, Brady will be out for the first four weeks of the season and play his first game back against Dallas.

Honestly would like to see him there, unless Brady plays into his late forties it's the last chance to see an all-time great in person. I understand the league's position, just hate to see a clash between these two great teams marred by something as stupid as deflategate.

I don't think he's going to serve any time. But it doesn't matter. We'll beat them regardless.

They should rule on Hardy before they begin this case.

Fair or not, I'd be surprised if this isn't reduced to 2 games. They set it at 4 to be able to reduce it to 2, imo.
He'll be playing vs Dallas.

The issue is that Brady may want the entire thing wiped out and his name cleared. That would be a real issue.

Now if Hardy gets his chopped in half, I'd be fine with that....though I'd prefer he have reduced much more, of course.

Hope Brady is prepared to wait until the Monday before Thanksgiving to hear the results of this appeal. Thats how long Hardy will be waiting to hear his and they can't rule on his 1st. That would just be too noticeable.

I want the win. With or without Brady

But I'll tell you this... If they reduce Brady on the grounds that he had no knowledge of it and it can't be proven (cough, cough) the NFL better make sure that Hardy's on the field for the same game. Cause nothing was proved in Hardy's case either.

If both are on the field, I'll call it a push... cause I really don't mind seeing Brady on his back anyways.

Goddell has gone all in to keep the suspension the same and even Robert Kraft has kind of distanced himself. I think he still suspended 4 games. His first game back would be against the Colts and Indy so it kind of writes itself.
