Optimism is high coming off a 12-4 season and an NFC East division title. But there are issues to resolve, roles to fill, roster spots to earn and comebacks to observe.
These five items top the list heading into training camp.
No rush to decide who runs

Randle, arguably the most talented of the bunch, averaged 6.7 yards a carry last season. But there are questions about whether he has the temperament and durability to be a lead back.
“I don’t think there’s any reason he can’t have a real productive year for us,’’ offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. “It’s really too hard to say what the production is going to be and who is going to get it. We’ll let that play itself out as the year goes on.
Turn up the heat
The Dez Bryant catch-that-wasn’t continues to resonate with fans as the reason the Cowboys were unable to get past Green Bay in the playoffs.
That’s the emotional flashpoint. But here’s the image seared in the memory of Cowboys coaches and management after that 26-21 loss: a one-legged and clearly hobbled Aaron Rodgers able to make plays in the second half due to the lack of a pass rush.
The Cowboys defense exceeded expectations in all areas save for one last season: their ability to pressure the quarterback. Buffalo led the league with 54 sacks.
Dallas finished with 28. San Diego, Atlanta, Oakland and Cincinnati were the only teams with fewer sacks, and only one of those made the playoffs.***snip***
Fighting back
Sean Lee is arguably the Cowboys best defensive player.
But that’s not what this camp is about. It’s about staying healthy as he tries to reclaim his career.
