Austin here.

I suppose because of the already diverse nature of the city it's not surprising to find fans of almost EVERY NFL team. The only team I don't think I've seen represented here are Jags fans. But by far the most annoying and 2nd most common fanbase (Cowboys being 1st) are Texans fans. They're pretty easy to put in their place though when the **** talking gets really intense and when team histories / accomplishments and current states of the teams / QBs start being compared lol

Nope. Because I don't talk sports with friends. I'm too serious of a fan for most of them. Cowboys, as well as sports, in general. Most are just casual fans and I can't do trash talk or even regular sports talk with casual fans. It's annoying.

Not really. While I live in the heart of KC land everyone who knows me understands my passion for the Cowboys and how long I've been a Cowboy fan.

for those of you in other major cities / mid-major cities: do you know of any bars that have either been created in support of another team other than the hometown team or a bar that just over time became known for supporting another team?

i know of 3 places here in Austin:

myplace on Jester Blvd. and 360: the owner is from Boston, MA and opened the place with the sole intention of it being a Patriots / Celtics / Red Sox Bar
Shoal Creek Saloon: Saints Bar
Can't remember the name of it, but it's a hotel bar somewhere downtown that is known for being a Steelers Bar

I get a friendly ribbing but it's almost always just that. I can't remember the last time someone did it to actually try and make me mad. If someone wants to talk to me most of them know that the Cowboys are a good conversation starter so a lot of convos I have are started by a slight jab at Dallas but in a friendly way. It helps quite a bit though that I live in Oklahoma where college football is king and most pro fans are fans of either Dallas, KC, or St Louis.

Yes. When the Cowboys pull one of their 3 or 4 annual fan base humiliations on national TV my phone lights up like a Christmas tree.

My one friend calls and goes "Dude, Cowboys suck!"

I say

"I know"

and hang up.

I have heard of this type of thing happening in the major cities. I have always considered the idea pretty cool but also it takes some stones to do it. I couldnt imagine opening a Dallas Cowboys bar in center city Philadelphia.

It used to incite a near riot the debates got so heated. One either loves the Cowboys or loathes them. They love them because they were the team to beat. They loathed them for that very same reason.

On to 96-Present........they mention jerry, laugh and apologize.

Dallas is circled by other teams when the schedule comes out.......... not for the reasons they used to do it, IMO.

LOL. I dont even answer the phone. Most people now leave me alone for a few days after a Dallas loss. They don't speak to me until I speak to them.

Steelers fans. I live in northwest Pennsylvania where there is a mixture of Browns, Bills and Steelers fans. The Steeler fans are the worst. They are probably the main reason I get so upset during the games because I know I am going to hear it from them immediately afterwards.

What makes things worse in recent years is that the two years where we had the most preseason hype to go to the Super Bowl (2008 and 2010) they end up there instead. 2010 really bugged me because they got a ton of calls from the refs that allowed them to steal the division from the Ravens and then they were lucky enough to avoid Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the playoffs and only had to beat Flacco and Sanchez to play the Super Bowl in our stadium. Not to mention everything also worked out for them to get HFA in the playoffs.

It was a very frustrating year up here as we started out 1-7 and had to fire our coach mid season.

Meh, I live in NYC and definitely meet my fair share of Giants fan that like to talk trash but I don't ever take it personal, it's all in fun. Most of them are pretty informed and keep things light, I don't really have problems watching games with them.

Jets fans are way worse than Giants fans though, they have the little brother complex to the G-Men and overreact to everything... good or bad. Extremely obnoxious.

I have lived in Pitt, DC, Philly, and now Dallas, Texas...

Its amazing to me, how laid back Dallas cowboys fans are in Texas......I dont get it. ??? But it's not a real, big deal..??? That's my perception at least.

I use to get trashed talked all the time. Especially after the bottom fell out when the dynasty was over. It's like people were waiting for the cowboys to fail for years and years so they could talk trash......but it eventually went away.......

Now. They don't talk trash, They sort of pity me. The league views the cowboys like a "gameshow". No one really takes them seriously...

Maybe 13 year olds get all excited about it. But they don't know any better........

Yea, I live amongst steeler rodents.

For many years following our win in the Super Bowl against them it was actual "hate". Ugly "hate". I even had somebody (pretty sure I know who but can't say for sure) send me a 'Care' package in the mail with pictures, written notes, and stuff about the Cowboys, etc. It got pretty ugly.

But the last several years it has not been hate, it has been them laughing at me and the Cowboys. Making fun of everything "Cowboys".

Making fun of Wade, Jerry, Romo, Pacman, T.O., or our many historic collapses, etc.
This has been worse than the "hate", because with the hate, I always knew they hated us since we beat them and got to 5 Trophies before they did.

But laughing at me/Cowboys, making fun of me/Cowboys is tougher to take. I really have no ammunition to talk back with.

But now this season, they have been absolutely quiet, .. but I have a feeling/fear that is going to change as they have begun winning, .. and with our "win one lose one" performance I fear they are going to pass us.

Fans that live in areas that are mostly Cowboy fans really have no clue what this is like, and how it permeates throughout everything that is "NFL" related.

Same. informed FOOTBALL fans keep the ribbing to a minimum, and genuinely talk football. Its the fanatics who get out of hand, but I don't see many of them. I know people who've played football, not worship teams.

I live in the state of Titletown. Cheeseheads galore reminding me of how much our teams suck, our QB sucks, our fans suck, etc.

I really don't mind. You get used to it after awhile.

When I was annoying people in N.M. in the 70s and 80s I was surrounded by Cowboys fans.
Unfortunately, the Cowboy hatahs stuck out like a sore thumb and gave me grief ever Monday after we lost.
Eventually I found out that most of those people were transplants from the North and Northeast, so I decided their views did not matter.
No matter how bad the Cowboys get at least I am a fan of the most glamorous team in the universe.
They, on the other hand, half to contend with lousy (mostly) hometowns and lousy teams that dont amount to much.

Packers fans are incredibly spoiled. Colts fans too. These teams go from Favre directly to Rodgers and from Manning to Luck. Think about it...these teams could go 20+ years with nothing except a hall of fame QB.

Do people that know you are a Cowboys' fan routinely bust your chops? I am in upstate NY and its a weird mixture of fans in this area. I would say:

40% Giants fans (until last year they held training camp here)
20% Jets fans
20% Bills fans
10% Patriots fans
10% a mixture of what I call the national teams: Dallas, Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Fran, Oakland, etc.

Anyway, so when I wear something that is Cowboys related, I really stand out and I get hammered.

As an example- In my travels today, my grandmother had asked me to pick up a turkey for her at the store. I had a Cowboys jacket on and as I am putting the turkey into my cart, some wise *** walks by and says...." the way the Raiders new QB played last game, that turkey might not taste so good on Thanksgiving for you"

Do you get busted on a lot for being a Dallas fan? And what state are you in?

I live in Philadelphia. I'd venture to say this is the worst part of the World to be a boys fan
