Do people switch radio stations just for hosts?

I'll get torched for this but since I don't live in Dallas, when I'm in the car I will listen to Colin Cowherd every chance I get. His takes on sports and life are provocative and smart. Sure he's wrong at times and I'll disagree with him but overall amidst the dumbing down of America, I hear him talk about analytics and ratings and just common sense life things. I think we just have the same sensibilities.

I also like his segments with Greg Cosell, who's got some of the best analysis on football I've heard. He's a tape rate, like Jaworski without the agenda. When he broke down RG III you knew exactly why he's awful and how far he has to go.

Cowherd is on my short list of least useful people alive. That guy is all schtick. He is doing nothing but poking various groups with sticks to get responses. He will be taking aim at NYC area folks one minute than attacking LA the next with the backing of NYC folks. He is wired to get responses not make valid points. Guys like him and Rome are just educated trolls.

The FAN, only because they have guests like Stephen, Jerry, Broaddus, Sham on regularly. And Holley offers some NFL insight. They also occasionally have on other guys that have played in the NFL. And I really only care about the NFL.

I don't listen because of the hosts. Ben and Skin think they are way funnier than they really are. Skin does know basketball, but I don't care much for basketball until the playoffs roll around. Ben offers no value as far as I'm concerned. And none of them talk hockey. Shan and RJ are mostly just killing time. Mostly just background noise for my drive in to work. They could all be replaced and it wouldn't bother me.

The Ticket is just nonsense. At least it was when I quit listening, 6 years ago or so. Sounds like it hasn't gotten much better since.

Any substantial info I get from the internet.

The morning guys on the ticket will have on the Stars announcer to talk Hockey.
Ticket routine is still same as 6 years ago. They have their dedicated segments for sports and segments for other things. A lot is non sense, but sometimes can be very funny and amusing.
If I didn't like a subject, just switched to something else, or listened to music.

Way too much golf talk for me. And their love affair with Tiger Woods. However they do gear their lives into segments too much. I don't care about listening about bicycling or the tour de france. And I don't want to hear about their vacations. As it's always some kind of issue or problem that arises. Nothing is ever simple, had a great time, nothing happened out of the ordinary.

Doesn't bother me, as I just change the stations now.

.

Yes! This times a thousand. My commute to work is 45 minutes. But somehow the guys in the morning on the ticket can find a way to talk about things I do not care about for the majority of the drive... That and commercials have me listening to Cowherd or The fan.

Every now and then, they'll talk about something that is interesting, but it's like... "Yeah that's cool and all, but what does this have to do with sports?".

He talks way too much about ratings and jumps on to flavor of the week mentalities way too easily. He just loved the read option and was convinced it wouldn't go the way of the wildcat.

That said, what he does is very tough and he manages to be entertaining.

Like everyone else has stated yes, it is about the hosts.

I mostly listen to the Fan unless Bob and Dan are on.
The Fan wins mornings for me by default. Not a huge fan of that morning show but it beats ESPN national offering narrowly and the Musers by actually talking some sports --if goofy talk at times.

Ben and Skin/Bob and Dan are my favorite shows.
Enough pop culture mix to fill around legitimate intelligent sports talk.

I've listened to Norm for 20+ years on and off and he's solid if clearly aging.

I have been really down on the Ticket for a few years and I see the Fan is actually catching them now in ratings because of the Cowboys.
That is good because it means more money and competition for the area shows.

If CBS would have lured Bob and Dan they may well be winning by a large margin right now.

Nailed my sentiments.

Shan and Rj are default for me as well, but I don't particularly like them. It's honestly hard to believe a market of this size couldn't get anyone better than these two.

I think the worst is when they interview comedians and try to get their jokes in... They just try too hard with that.

Name to post irony check.

its not that ironic. the hardline no longer exists in the form that made it famous and the station really go.
those guys owned stock in the company and were trying to build a monster.
they succeeded and were sold off and now are really just 1 of 3 very similar stations.

chris arnold, ben and skin et al. a lot of guys got their start there but have moved on.
it's all business and business has been good.

we won't even talk about the hardline train wreck that would make a decent tv movie.

I like listening to the Ticket but change the channel when Norm is on, that guy's voice alone is annoying as hell and his "analysis" is 99% crap.

Yes. Sports talk radio is all about the hosts.

I can't watch any of that stuff from the Cowboys website like Talking Cowboys and the Lunch Break. If somebody posts the test of those shows I'll read it but I can't listen to the moronic chatter.

Be careful believing too much from Broaddus. He has some good info but will mix in some nonsense.

Nick Eatman is a complete Moron. Two years ago in training camp he had a roster from about 2009 and was referencing players that had been gone for years as being on the field. How does a guy thag works for the team think that the RB Lattimore is on the team in 2012 when he hadn't been with them since 2009?

For the record, that Nick Eatman thinking former players are on the team was a running gag. It was never meant seriously. They continue to mention former players as being on the team to this day.

Mainly speaking talkin Cowboys and the lunch break. I'm a Broaddus fan, big one. However I can't watch that show anymore because of Kelsey and Mickey. Can deal with one, not two, and Kelsey is a really anoying host. Sydney is just there doesn't really play a role. I do like all 3 people on the Break so now I listen to that. Nick and Dennis go back and forth but in a healthy manner and Derek imo is a great host. Not saying you have to agree or disagree with anything im saying just curious what other people do.

I do that here in Missouri also. We have to many guys that have agendas instead of reporting the facts.

Colin is not a homer like those other Espn dudes. Espn Mike and Mike stinks.

No, it was not a gag. They were calling the blue-white scrimmage. I'm aware when they are joking.
