Do the Cowboys deserve the sort of "fans" that they get?

There is only one goal every year for the Dallas Cowboys. The bar is high for Championship franchises...it's true for any organization accustomed to winning . Our history is rich!

Do fans always throw in the towel in October when they are 2-2? Not in the NFL.

It appears to this ole diehard that revenue has become more of a priority than winning championships but what do you do. I'm hooked after 44 years of watching and have nothing else to do on Sundays.

But it is what it is and our record is who we are. Like I said in previous down years, it just leaves more seats for us to purchase and less expensive gear.

That's the worst thing about when we are on top...I hate seeing everyone in the same jersey I have on. Now on Monday mornings at Starbucks, I'm the only one wearing gear since so many are wagon fans.

Rooting for a winner is easy...losing builds character.

What continues to wear on me -- and therefore convert me into a negative nancy -- is the similarities in which this team finds ways to lose year after year. Yes it makes me down on them when I see the same problems now I saw three years ago. More importantly, it makes it harder to believe in/trust them.

Now, on game day, I'm all rose-colored glasses for the most part. "Hey it's 10-7, but we're going to put them away this drive!!!" Of course that emotion will swing the other way -- "Crap, WHY DID YOU THROW THAT ROMO??!" -- but I always end up believing they'll pull it through.

It's just hard, if not impossible, to share that same outlook in the six non-game days when we tend to more on more analytical hats.

Good post. I don't understand the fickle fans myself. Especialy since its only October. But I do understand that lot of these guys arent' fans. Some of them are bandwaggoners. Some of them are just fickle. Some of them are fans of other teams and just come on here to rile us up. I'll let the Cowboys play the game on the field and let the fans play with the message boards.

Good point. But I think this goes further back than 3 years. More like 5 years. This is the same thing that happened with Parcells.

The record isnt what I am pissed about. It is the poor play and awful schemes. Champ Bailey is one of the best in the game and we are going at him over and over. Looking at the replays there were guys open on the other side of the field but for some reason our great game plan was to attack Bailey.

Wade Phillips is a joke of a head coach and Jerry continues to stick with him because he likes the guy. We deserve better, there were at least 10,000 of us Cowboy fans at Invesco field today to cheer on our team and we deserved a better effort that what they gave us.

Of couse it is. This is one of the toughest times in our history ranking behind our 3 straight 5-11 seasons...the 1st one in this era in 89...the last 3 with Landry and of course the 1st 4 years of expansion.

But boy...wasnt 1965-1983 fun...and 91-96. Most NFL teams have never enjoyed the kind of success we have had. It will come again and I want to be watching when it does.

We have gone 14 years without a championship before...sound better than 40 or 50 years to me.

It always descends into these sorts of 'debates'...Who are 'real' fans and what it means to stick by a team, etc....It's a game, it's not life & death...We have a favorite but that doesn't mean they're always going to win or they're always going to meet the expectations out there...Nature of the game, winning & losing.

As fans, we're lucky because there's an enthusiastic owner at the helm but that doesn't mean his actions/choices are always going to be spot on or that he won't be a hindrance at times too...It's my belief he certainly plays a role in the blame game, as well

The Cowboys are average (As evidenced by their 2-2 record), the sky is NOT falling

The fans that don't seem to care here or always take the optimist approach despite the fact that we show the same mistakes from years past are probably the same ones sitting in suites silent at the stadium.

I agree. Our record is who we are. And Jethro as I call him is a wanna be coach. It is his Ultimate fantasy team. That's what you get when Millionaires wanna play.
So all we have to do is either not support them at all or raise a billion bucks or so and buy him out.
It's like this for me...I don't have to like the cook to eat the food but i can sure complain about him.

Yeah that must be it, i mean it really explains why this place and other places like it has more fan traffic after a loss then a win and why even now we still have more fan traffic then any Saints or Colts board

It will not come again until Jerry steps down as GM - he could easily live another 20 years, think about it.

I guess Al Davis would also be considered an enthusiastic owner as well under this criteria.

That's a big thing...is a road game ever really a road game for us? I know FedEx is what it is and the skins fan hate it, but I drove 8 hours to the sunday nighter last november and it was freaking freezing, but no doubt, no questions asked 1/3 of the crowd was us. I couldn't believe my eyes, and I was warned by about everyone I know that I would practically get mugged and not one foreign Commanders fan so much as said one word to me as I was dressed head to toe in cowboy gear. I was so dressed up, I was basically wearing cowboys shoelaces. I could absolutely not believe it, it almost felt like a home game especially the section I sat in.

fans are mad because they have waited a long time now for a winner, this is our time for it too. Had this been under Campo fans would have understood better. This team were watching was built for championships and has so under performed is sickning, that's why the fans are going crazy.:banghead:

It's a fair comparison, actually...Because more and more, Jerry is becoming an Al Davis, IMHO...Thinking he can run the team as well as sit back and collect the loot...There's a reason why all but these two organizations are coached and managed by personnel other than the owner...When there's a 'higher power' at work, like in Al's or Jerry's case, players know the buck does not stop with the coach...Cue the lack of discipline
