Roy was a liability in coverage. Brock Marion wasn't that great.

Roy had 5 INTs as a rookie. He was good in coverage those first few years. He seemed to fall apart when they implemented the 3-4.

Here's hoping DeMarco finds a way to avoid bigtime collisions with Cam Chancellor. He's well known to cause many a running back injury problems and Murray isn't one to back down from that. It'd likely behoove Murray to opt to run around Chancellor rather than take him on head-on. Losing him for any length of time would be next to casastrophic for this offense. It is also being noted by Garrett that Murray's carries are to be somewhat more limited in the weeks ahead to enhance the continuation of his good health.

Witten is a completely different TE than Gates.
Yea...actually the guy who is a lot more like Gates, even though eh probably won't get any looks, is Esco. I don't love Witten against Seattle b/c of how well their LBs and Chancellor will be able to cover him one-on-one.

1970 - 1974, Cowboys had Cornell Green and Charlie Waters as Safeties. That's a pretty good combo right there.

Don't you mean Cliff Harris? Waters really didn't become a regular safety until 1975.

Back in the day, the Giants had Emlen Tunnell and Dick Nolan. That's a pretty darn good combo right there.

Carnell Lake and Rod Woodson (although I'm not sure if Woodson was still a CB)

Dennis Smith and Steve Atwater

Other notables: (aside from the Cowboys already mentioned)

Polamalu and Ryan Clark

Merton Hanks and Tim McDonald

Darren Sharper and Leroy Butler

Merton Hanks and Tim McDonald should be near tops on any list, IMO.

Cowboys had Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters, Brock Marion and Darren Woodson, Darren Woodson and Roy Williams - Roy could play when Woody was there. Woodson could cover the slot man to man.

Brock Marion and Darren Woodson were among the best as well. What an awesome tandem.

They barely played alongside each other. Once Marion became a starter he only stayed 3 seasons in Dallas before moving on to Miami. He had 6 INTs his first year as a starter and then zero INTs the next two seasons.

First, how many seasons have Earl Thomas and Chancellor played?

Second, don't get sucked into the fantasy football/Madden void of using interceptions as the pillar-and-post statistic to measure effective play as a safety. It's a good statistic but it's a phantom statistic. Players can be just as if not more effective with fewer INTs and fewer plays on the ball than the stat lines would let you believe.
