Don't have the bandwidth to research but Crayton has always been cavalier with the ball. I doubt that is his attitude but it is the way he carries the ball. And I believe he has fumbled before today although I'm not certain it hurt us.

He can learn but he needs to learn quickly. We aren't likely to get away with turnovers against the rest of the East. He needs to practice holding on to the ball. That is the coaches responsibility. I'd come down hard on him.

And tackling is apparently not cool anymore. Many seem intent on delivering big hits. I KNOW this can lead to missed tackles. Not only do people bounce off but you can take bad angles and just have your head up your arse trying to kill the guy rather than making sure you get a good tackle. That is not only the Boys but seems to be a lot of the league. And that is also the coaches responsibility.

Same with the false starts. Yada yada. They aren't stupid at this level. Well not most. It's just bad habits.

Good post and glad you see it as well.

Crayton looses the ball at least once a game but he always gets it back.

It was a good play but he doesn't tuck the ball. Watch TO and TG when they make a catch. They tuck it immediately and when they hit traffic they cover up with both hands. That is smart football and sound fundamentals. Crayton on the other hand is always loose with the ball. Parcells always complained about it and no matter how many times Crayton loses the ball he doesn't change.

That in my opinion is stupid.

I do agree that Crayton sometimes is loose with the ball but it wasn't really the case with the fumble today. He was trying to cover up after catch the ball when the DB knock it out. The DB made a very good play more so than Crayton being careless.

Denying it only shows your ignorance because the two of you are in the minority.
Three in the minority. Count me in.

I think we have a very intelligent team that is learning new things, building chemistry. Football is not about between the ears as much as it is about instincts for the game and the schemes. This team has totally bought into and invested themselves in this team. They wouldn't be 6-1 if they hadn't.

A stupid team does stupid things off the field too. This team isn't. They are very focused and very together.

I see gradual improvement each week on certain aspects of the game. A stupid team wouldn't show that.

I'll proudly join the "minority," because I am convinced that the staff and team are building. That can't happen if they are stupid. No, we do not have a stupid team.

Crayton may swing the ball around at times, but on his fumble today he looked to have it tucked away pretty well -- he just wasn't expecting to get blasted in the back by that DB.

Well it makes up for the boneheaded play last week when Samuel nearly stripped him becuase he was holding the body in one hand away from his body for no apparent reason.

Remember Crayton was a QB in college and probably has some leftover QB habits when it comes to handling the ball.

So not wrapping up on tackles is smart.
False start penalties is smart.
Crayton refusing to wrap the ball up is smart.

But every team does that... Every team.

I brought up those teams that are having miserably disappointing seasons because we aren't them. I don't see how a team with only one loss, and that to the best NFL team in years, could be that stupid of a team.

Certain penalites are dumb, like spiking the ball or celebrations where you know you're going to get penalized even before you do them. But not all penalties are dumb. And I think our clock management, like Barber always knowing to get out of bounds, is pretty good.

That is one aspect and your missing the point. They are stupid for the same mistakes over and over again.

Ok, there are a few out there who are undisciplined. But to call the entire team stupid because of a few people is ignorant.

stupid = "given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner"

How do you define the OL penalties every game for the last 3 years?

Agreed but this stuff will get magnified when we play good teams. Smart teams don't make basic mistakes over and over.

I think many of the fans are much more stupid than the team.

I define them as penalties. Infractions against the rules.

There are a number of things that can contribute to penalties. Stupidity is one thing that can, but usually stupid penalties are like what Hall did in Atlanta. He got hot headed and blew his cool and cost his team. We haven't had that.

Mental errors are not always stupidity. Perhaps a player is gassed, or overly amped because of a previous play, or the expectations of a coming play. I've been in the huddle when a guy has moved early and he has said, "sorry guys, I got a cramp." I've heard guys say they forgot the snap count because they listened to the audible. These guys were not stupid. They had a momentary lapse.

I don't know of a perfect individual. Someone who never makes a mistake. Certainly not in a football game where the other guy can make you make that mistake.

Stupid? Not on your life.

Agreed, but there are also individuals who play with the team.

So if TO gets a penalty for a TD celebration do you say "that was a bad penalty, stupid Cowboys." Thats what I thought.

Explain to me how my post is stupid?

OL false starts smart? Is not covering the ball up smart? Is not wrapping up on tackles smart?

You guys are cool with a win but we will see how you respond if they make the mistakes against good football teams and lose.

Thanks. But let me make sure you understand I don't see them as being stupid. AB wasn't stupid but his lack of judgment made him appear that way to many. We don't have anyone on the team in his league by far.

Again. They are bad habits. On the fumble today by Crayton. He wasn't carrying the ball poorly like he does at times. But he was not prepared to get rocked and/or stripped of the ball. The hit on him appeared to be totally unexpected. That's due to just having poor habits and he's a little too experienced at this point in time to be still doing that. He should have been expecting to be hit and prepared to hang on to the ball. Being basically mid-year with 3 years behind him he should be better than that.

But I think he'll learn from the experience. He's not stupid. :)

I don't think your post is stupid, and I don't think you are stupid. But I do think we have some very ignorant fans. IMO you are asking a valid question. I wish you weren't doing it with an accusatory tone, but I respect your topic.

I just disagree with the word stupid as it describes this team. I am very disappointed in some fans. Again, not you. I do think it is mind boggling that so many can appear to be so unhappy and we're 6-1. Blows my mind.

Would you prefer another defining word then?

Someone who makes the same mistakes over and over. What would you call them?
