I know Virginia head coach Al Groh and BP are close friends, do you think BP is interested in mortgaging some of our future to get him this year?

NCAA | More about Brooks' situation

Jeremy Root, of The Cavalier Daily, reports Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks failed a drug test within the past two weeks and will not be practicing with the team this spring, according to two sources close to the team. The sources told The Cavalier Daily that Virginia head coach Al Groh informed the team Brooks would not be with the squad this spring, and his status for the fall had not yet been determined. Because Brooks originally elected not to enter the 2006 NFL Draft by the Jan. 15 deadline, if he wishes to participate in the 2006 NFL season, he will have to enter the Supplemental Draft, which generally takes place in the summer. Brooks also has the option to petition the NFL to gain entry in the NFL Draft, to be held Apr. 29 and 30.

How can he hold out for him in April if he isn't available until the Summer and the Sup Draft?

I agree we don't need to go through that kind of stuff again.

its because they are friends that groh will not recommend this move. why bring trouble to someone who is known to have little patience with it? brooks = bryant = carter etc

Wake up folks. The report said it's possible he won't be participating in the SPRING drills. That doesn't mean he's off the team yet. He still could be. The team might also choose to discipline him another way.

It's too soon to jump the gun on this.

Wouldn't surprise me if BP went after Brooks in the supplemental draft. Parcells isn't afraid to take a chance on some players with questionable backgrounds (Jermaine Brooks, Willie Blade, Tyson Thompson, etc), but he's smart enough to only do it when it doesn't cost him much. Brooks and Thompson were undrafted guys and Blade they basically got back for fishheads and rice.

That's one of the biggest differences between Parcells and Jerry as Jerry would go after guys in any round despite having character issues.

It's nice and all to see your team turn around a guy's life, but I believe you have to put the team in a situation where the only person that has anything to lose if the player acts up, is the player himself.

Gambling on players with drug problems, bipolar disorder, etc. while praying that their talent will come through got us to three consecutive 5-11 seasons.

You can wreck team chemistry by suddenly tolerating suspect character because of talent, especially when you've spend endless hours trying to institute character into your team. Players also take cap space, coaching time, and roster spots, so there aren't many row-risk gambles anymore.

If Groh was such a good friend, why would he recommend Bill sign someone he threw off his own team? With friends like that, you go 6-10!
