Do you think the Cowboys will bring in Ray Mickens?

Parcells said this week he has no idea who his 4th, 5th and 6th CB's will be and that you can never have enough CB's. I kind of like Lance Frazier's long term potential, but all the other CB's behind the "big three" really do nothing for me. I don't really think we're losing much potential if we have to cut Nate Jones to make a roster spot for him. Mickens is from Texas and went to school at Texas A&M.

don't forget about 4th round pick Bruce Thorton from last year. Either he or Frazier or Reeves will step up.

Didn't we already offer them a trade for Mickens, he's gotta be packing his suitcase for Dallas right now.

Aren't we going to trade the Jets something to get Ty Law? :D

I like Mickens. He could bring something to the team. I also want to see of any of the rooks from last year step up. I am hoping one or more do. It wouldn't be bad to push them harder by signing another vet, but in the end I hope either Thorton, Frazier, Reeves or Jones becomes someone to count on for a few years.

I tnik he will be here, I have no faith in Reeves or Thornton and I believe we will be seeing 4 CB,s on the field in our nickel package rather than a FS, so the more depth at CB, the better.

They need to try Thornton as FS IMO, his scouting report says he has good zone coverage skills and might do well at FS.

Didn't Thornton play some Safety at Georgia by the way?

In any case, I thought I read that Thornton started to step up the last couple of days in practice.

IIRC he started off at RB and played a lot of cover two in college.

I am sure some will moan about us getting older, but for a fourth cornerback, we could do (and have) worse.

It would be nice to have a second day draft choice pan out for a change.

With the number of young players that will probably make this team the "getting older" argument should be mute.

as I type I am putting on my hardhat.

As much as we groan about developing the young QBs, what's wrong with developing the young CBs? This is not to say Mickens wouldn't be great as a 4th CB.

But why can't any of the young CBs be great as the 4th CB? We've got 3 VERY solid CBs and for all intents and purposes, Frazier was having a nice camp before his ankle injury. Thornton is trying to make some noise. Who knows what could happen with Jones and Reeves?

On the flip side, Glenn is only here 1 maybe 2 years. So who has the potential to move into that 3rd spot?

My thought is if we give them some REAL time to develop, maybe we can turn our draft pick investments into something worthwhile. We drafted them for a reason. Unfortunately they were tossed into the fray much too soon last year, but now they have a chance to learn and grow as a player at a much more normal pace. So why toss them out with the bath water, now? JMO.

If we kept 6 CB's in Henry,Newman,Glenn,Thorton, Frazier and Mickens should he sign, then Reeves or Jones would be safe on the practice squad I would think. That gives you 3 young CB's to develope.

It all depends on what you are trying to develop.

Listening to Coach Parcells in his last news conference, it did not sound like he was impressed by Thornton.

It all depends on what Coach Parcells is trying to do. If the goal is to win now, he brings aboard Mickens and keeps one of the young guys (I would keep Frazier). Jones, Thornton and Reeves all had shots last year and could not step up. He is all about players who seize their opportunities.

Thornton has not really had a shot - blew out his knee last year.

I personally think there are way too many options out there right now or us to even think we know exactly what will happen. IMHO......As long as we have the top 3 in place, that gives us a little time to mold the rest (whoever that may be) into what we want them to be. As for all the speculationg, it seems like a waste of time at this point.

I do not subscribe to that theory. The RCB job was there for the taking.

He was right there with Hunter, Jameel Powell and Andrew Davison at this time last year and was never even close.

Not to mention he was buried behind Reeves and Jones even after Hunter got hurt. He only saw action in the Giants game as a kick returner.

Didn't thorton come in when Hunter went down? I belive Hunter was bigger and faster than Thorton and had some experience on him. So no, he didn't have a ligitimate shot at competing for a position.

I love how we fans love to say so and so never had a "legitimate shot" at competing.

There is a reason why he was not active against Minnesota, Cleveland and Washington. Reeves and Jones beat him out for nickel duties and on special teams. Hunter goes down, he moves up the ladder.

No conspiracy. He was not able to rise to the occasion and then got hurt. That is all there is to it.
