Do you think Williams beats out Austin before the end of the year?

As someone else mentioned, they don't play the same spot. Williams and Harris aren't competing. Harris is a slot receiver. Williams will be opposite Dez.

You are looking at things a little too technical, methinks. Dez and a healthy Miles are not going to be taken off the field in three receiver sets unless they are injured or getting a breather. Either Williams proves ready so that Austin can operate out of the slot on third downs or Harris proves too valuable to take off the field and Austin takes more reps outside. They are indeed competing for playing time until such time as Austin either goes down or until 2014 rolls around.

I just don't know with Miles any more.

He should be killing the league but he is a little above average on bad hammies.

I don't think his primary role will be a deep threat(although he will have those opportunities) since that'll go more to Bryant with his emergence since Austin seems to have trouble locating the ball deep. I think he will be more the intermediate guy starting out with some deep looks but will most likely get the #3 spot from Harris and play on the outside opposite Bryant with Austin in the slot(when healthy) like you have already stated.

Matt Ryan didn't get drafted until 2008 which was Robinson's 2nd year(drafted 2007) then 09-10 he was in St. Louis before he came here in 2011. It's not like he had alot to work with before he got here even with his size and speed as far as QB and teams that he played for. Dallas was the first good team he was on, talent-wise, for him to be able to thrive.......then he went to the Jaguars(dumb mistake for him, really thought he'd come back since he thrived so well here with Romo) so yeah there's that...

Williams strengths are as a vertical threat and a red zone threat. So I think that's how he'll be used this year. One of his main weaknesses is that he hasn't really shown that he can run all the routes, which limits his ability as a short/intermediate threat. Hopefully, that will develop with time.

Using Williams as a deep threat doesn't preclude using Dez as a deep threat as well.

Not sure what the point you're trying to prove is.

I don't know much about Williams, but Harris was developing last year, he's a tough player that makes plays and doesn't go down easy. I would hate to see him get less playing time because some rookie got drafted and is being gifted a spot over him.

Look, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings. The things you previously listed weren't exactly screaming endorsements of the guy, nor were they very indicative of his actual play... prototypical size and speed doesn't necessarily mean he's going to play like Hakeem Nicks... take Laurent Robinson for example. Prototypical size and better than prototypical speed-- didn't do much for him for the majority of his career.

Anyway, back on topic. I've read the scouting reports but I just don't see the speed with this guy. He seems 'clunky' for lack of a better term. He seems to be slow in and out of his breaks, doesn't possess breakaway speed, doesn't possess many skills running with the ball either. I'm not saying that he's awful, but I just don't see anything he does better than Austin or Bryant.

Maybe the slower speed of the big XII never necessitated the need to play at a higher level, but I just don't see it with Williams. Hope I'm wrong.

For a 3rd pick he is worth the draft pick. The kid caught 97 passes for over 1,800 yards. So what if he played in the Big 12 and the type of offense they run.

The best part about Williams is what his coach said, "he gets open. Some how he's always open". That's what counts and worth the pick.

Also if RGIII was pushing for him then that also should say something about the kid.

Thoughts? I've always been a fan of Williams, so I think he has a shot.

Austin will take himself out of the competition.

He'll pull a hamstring during a press conference.

I'm not saying he's not worth a 3rd round pick. I'm saying I don't see what's all that special about him.

You don't think that being in the big XII against lousy defenses doesn't affect a player 'being open'?

Yes. RGIII is the be all end all when it comes to opinions. He's probably still buddies with RGIII-- you don't think that weighs into that equation?

Whoa, Partner, maybe you need to slow your roll just a small bit here.

Health is a skill. Miles doesn't have it. Not sure what there is to get.

My point was Robinson is a bad example of what you were trying to convey. Nicks has a better team around him so he is able to thrive better than Robinson has since the teams he was on, up until he came to Dallas, were not as good.

Yeah, not too worried about that.

Doubt he'll have to. He wasn't drafted to be #4.

Harris had pretty much already taken the #3 job last year. If you think it's gonna be easy for Williams to take over that spot you're delusional.

You're delusional if you think Harris is any more than a third/fourth WR option. He's simply not that talented. Williams beats him out day one IMO.

Nobody beats out a starter on this team--they have to get injured.

This is so true.

However, if Williams is ready to ball he takes over the #3 spot. I think Austin moves to his more natural position, the slot, in 3 WR sets. He is a match up nightmare there.

Garrett doesnt play rookies unless he is forced or they are drafted in the first rd.

He won't have to. He'll already be moving Miles to the slot. After that, Miles probably won't be here next season anyway.

Yup. Williams comes in with an immediate role that will only expand.

He'll back up Miles on the outside but Miles spends only half his time there anyway and of course misses another 25% of the snaps either for injury or rest. Gives Williams a heavy rookie workload.

In 2014 expect Dez, Williams with Harris as the slot guy.

i dont think he'll have much choice. the roster isn't deep with vets.
