Especially since he is on a short leash now.

LatinMind;5073067 said:Nope, alot of you act like Austin is chopped liver. The guy scores tds and almost had a 1000 yrds even being as injured as he was. Williams will be developed just like Austin, and Harris were. Only thing that will stop austin from starting are his hammies

With that said, I don't think Austin is overrated just his potential is overshadowed by his chronic hamstring injuries which extremely frustrating considering what he is capable of producing. I guarantee you that IF he wasn't injured, he would be putting up his 2009 numbers with no problem and we wouldn't be having this conversation BUT the unfortunate reality is that he was and we are.

I think the best thing to come out of a little competition will be that Miles' hammies will feel much better all year.

That's it!
900 yards playing across from Dez and Witten in this offense is nothing. Miles has over 115 targets. He only had 125 when he had 1300+ yards.
At this point you are what you are. Miles is a mediocre starting WR making superstar money. He'll likely be gone soon.
Laurent Robinson came here and had 850+ yards after signing off the street and did so in 81 targets.

The things you previously listed weren't exactly screaming endorsements of the guy, nor were they very indicative of his actual play... prototypical size and speed doesn't necessarily mean he's going to play like Hakeem Nicks... take Laurent Robinson for example. Prototypical size and better than prototypical speed-- didn't do much for him for the majority of his career.
Anyway, back on topic. I've read the scouting reports but I just don't see the speed with this guy. He seems 'clunky' for lack of a better term. He seems to be slow in and out of his breaks, doesn't possess breakaway speed, doesn't possess many skills running with the ball either. I'm not saying that he's awful, but I just don't see anything he does better than Austin or Bryant.
Maybe the slower speed of the big XII never necessitated the need to play at a higher level, but I just don't see it with Williams. Hope I'm wrong.
Mr Cowboy;5072522 said:Of course he will, and Fredrick will be the Pro Bowl starting center, Escobar will unseat Witten in training camp, Webb will make Carr the third CB and Holloman will push Carter to the bench. That's how good this draft class is!
The reason they got him is so Austin can move to the slot on three receiver sets.TheRomoSexual;5072487 said:Thoughts? I've always been a fan of Williams, so I think he has a shot.

PJTHEDOORS;5073352 said:Seasons 2006 & 2007, he caught only 5 passes total. Season 2008, 13 recieptions. So basically 1st 3 seasons aren't a good barometer of him not reaching 1,000 yards. This year will be his 8th year. He is as of now, a 7 year veteran.

They don't exist.
Miles has always been potential outside 1 stretch of about 20 games that crossed his 2 solid seasons.
He was easily unseated by Dez last year and is simply not an effective star WR given his completion percentages, yards per target or other metrics. He was the culprit on a couple major offensive let downs that get pinned on Romo. One play he lost the ball in the lights the other he stopped running.
Miles is a solid NFL WR but not a star caliber player. He is paid at star level.
If he was a 3m a year WR I'd support him wholly.
