While I don't want Parcells to go , I also don't think he is immune from criticism . The thing I criticise most about him is the job he has done with the coaching staff . I don't care who you are or what profession you are in , you are still only as good as those who surround you .
Cowher had his Ken Whisenhunt and Dick LeBeau . Schottenheimer has his Cam Cameron and Wade Phillips . Brian Billick has his Rex Ryan . Lovie Smith has his Ron Rivera . Tony Dungy has his Tom Moore . Bill Parcells had...Mike Zimmer and Tony Sparano ???
He obviously had a real find in Payton , but just couldn't keep a hold on him . While I blame he and J. Jones for not doing a better job of addressing this , it's also hard to make wanted assistants stay in place . As for the rest of the organization , I think he has done a teriffic job ! Dallas is talented and young at nearly every position on the roster .
I believe that Parcells tries to do too much with the team on his own and does not give enough responsibility to his assistants . Maybe it's a trust issue ! Maybe it's a stubborness issue ! Either way , the team has not been prepared to play the way that they should . I believe that more trust and more responsibility on the shoulders of your offensive and defensive coordinators could fix this problem .
I like Sparano and can't complain too much about the # of points Dallas put up this year , but they still failed to attack the weakness of opposing teams on a regular basis . Either he needs to have his duties cut in half from being Asst. Head Coach/Offensive Line/Running game , or Dallas needs to bring in a young offensive mind out of the NCAA . Somebody like Steve Sarkisian from USC , Dan Mullen from the University of Florida , or Jimbo Fisher from LSU . Either way , Dallas needs a true full-time offensive coordinator and a true full-time offensive line coach .
On the defensive side of the ball I see no reason to beat a dead horse , so I won't . Zimmer has moved on and needs to be replaced . Personally I think that this replacement needs to be the caliber of our next head coach . A guy like Rob Ryan from Oakland who has had success in both the 3-4 with the Patriots in 2000-2003 and the 4-3 with Oakland in 2004-2006 . Or a guy like Mike Smith who also had success in both the 3-4 with Baltimore in 1999-2002 and the 4-3 with Jacksonville in 2003-2006 .
