If we hadn't helped them with penalties, I'm not sure they would have scored on us. It was senseless

Per Bill Parcells from todays press conference.

Penalties is what lost the game for us, there is no if ands or buts about it, this is fact.

Lack of concentration, that is a direct reflection of the coaching staff, maybe Jerry and Bill need to start fining people for penalties, or the team can do it themselves.

Dan Neil, has sadi that when he played on the Broncos, that they (the team) had fines for players that caused penalties, fumbles etc.

I like the idea of fines, but I think it would be cool if it came from the players themselves, from within.

Owens needs to get fined $10,000 for every drop, and Roy needs to get fined $20,000 for every bomb he gives up.

not sure RW would be paying anything then, since Parcells has said it was Watkins who was responsible for the blowen coverages earlier this yr

he got a penalty yesterday, that was it...otherwise he had a good game

There is no doubt that 11 flags for 153 yards was a major reason for the loss. I don't think there is an easy solution to fixing the problem and a lot of it falls on the players themselfs to keep their heads in the game.

One hundred fifty three yds in Penalties? Yeah, you don't do that and win.
It's all Parcells fault.

You must have missed the easy INT that went through Roy's hands and bounced off his helmet.

I do not agree that it is a direct reflection of the coach when players are sloppy. There is only so much a coach can do. I do think that this teams suffers from a lack of concentration at times. And it usually someone different.. for example.. the blocked FG.. the first time all season that Columbo did what he did,, how is that a reflection on the coach? How is someone sticking their arm out to try and make a play and hitting the facemask that results in a 15 yder a reflection of the coach? How is a pro bowl tightend jumping off sides, a reflection of the coach?

Now I do think that players need to be held accountable for their mistakes, and no one on this board knows what goes on behind the doors. How do you know that there is not some kind of fine structure?

One of the problems and the difficulty of trying to coach a team like us.. one that makes the mental mistakes, is you do not want them to be tentative. If the player sits back and thinks about a penality, he is late in his reaction and won't make the play. Its very very hard thing that Bill Parcells is faced with at this point and honestly, I dont see anything that he can do. It will be up to each individual player to step up and handle his position.

It's just way easier to blame the coach. Why think about what the players are doing?

When the team plays sloppy week in and week out it IS a direct reflection on the coaching.

I tend to think Parcells often gets blamed unfairly for things that are not his fault, but we have the most penalized team in the NFL. This was not a one week thing - just maybe even worse than normal.

I keep seeing guys say this. I don't understand how a coach gets blamed for players mental mistakes during the game. Care to explain?

This is an undisciplined, not always focused, mistake prone team.As long as this team remains that way,it will always be something.Even if they come out next week against arizona, and play a flawless game,it still don't change anything. They need to prove it over time.

Its hard for me to draw that conclusion. Bill has been around a long time and not one of the other teams he has coached was like this. So why this team? Why Now? I just can't believe that Bill is not drilling in their heads every day about penalties. I just can't. Of course I can't explain the bad play either. It would be a lot easier if it was just one person.. but its everyone, from rookies to Pro bowlers.. its very strange.

I think we all know if the head coach went by any other name but Parcells,he would be getting no support, and all the blame around here.I've been following football for 35 years, and teams that were undisciplined, and sloppy, have always been the blame of the coach. Now all of a sudden one of these teams happens to be coached by Bill Parcells, and we're going to change the way things have always been viewed.

I don't know if we would have NOT scored on you guys, but penalties definitely extended two scoring drives, and made the game-winning field goal attempt possible. It would be very fair to say that they contributed significantly to the loss. Even with the penalties, however, "The Player" was in position to put us away, and dropped an EASY touchdown pass (they don't get much easier than that), and Williams let another INT go right through his hands. And defensively, EVERYONE bit right on the Portis play to allow him to run untouched down the left sideline.

So while penalties were a factor, they weren't the only reason the Boys lost.

At least you understand the Skins got lucky again!! Full Moon Fever! I would rather get blown out than lose by a fluke.

Lucky, maybe. I prefer to think about it that we finally caught some breaks. All those breaks were going the other way through the first 7 games; finally some things started going our way.
