Does anyone have a summary of our cap situation next year?

I was hoping to find a sticky, but I'm not sure anyone has calculated it yet. (Adam, are you there? :) )

Does anyone know what kind of cap shape we are in next year? How much is the league cap expected to rise?

What does our team's cap look like without Greg Ellis, La'Roi Glover and Marco Rivera?

I remember seeing a chart a month ago. It's not pretty. We're only about $5 mil under the cap. That's barely enough to cover our draft picks.

Don't expect any major FA hauls. Ellis, Glover, and Rivera will eat up cap space if released.

Rivera would cost us about $8 mill against the cap in dead money if released. So don't be too quick to pull the trigger on the guy. He was a mistake ... but we have to live with it for now.

I'm not advocating Rivera's release at all, I just think he's going to retire because the injuries are too much for him late in his career. I think we're going to eat that signing bonus so I'm assuming the worst. I hope that Glover and Ellis are far enough into their contracts that we will come out ahead. Hopefully, they have back-loaded contracts where the money we save by not paying their salary is actually more than any remaining salary cap bonus we eat. Since Glover is near the end of his contact, I bet that is the situation. Not sure about Ellis who is only a few years into his new contract, but I know we didn't sign him into a contract as high as Grant Wistrom and some of the other semi-big name defensive ends.

The cap is due to expand substantially this coming year. So we should be ok to pick up a couple of moderately priced FA's. (Hopefully on the O LINE!!!)
Rivera LOOKED like a decent deal- and if he had PLAYED like he did last year with GB it would have been. OOOOPPPPPPSSSSSS.

That didn't include any money we rolled to this year nor unearned bonuses. I think when it's all said and done we will be around 10 million under. Not great but not troubled either.

I believe they'll save substantial $ if they release Glover and Allen.

You guys don't realize we have like 15 mil in dead money that drops this year. With the increase in cap we are in the 20-25 mil range.

Ofcourse we should all just wait for Adam for the definitive answer to the cap question but I am curious, whose dead money contracts are ending for us this offseason that you are speaking of?

I know when the report came out around two weeks ago it said we would be around 5 million under that's the OFFICIAL line right now. But like Adam said when you roll the money from this year and unearned bonus money we should be around 10 million.

I have no Idea where you guys are coming up with 20-25 million under but that's just way off. Also remember any cuts, retirements, or players traded either before or after june 1 will count FULLY against the cap this year. There will be no taking a portion now and the rest "DEAD MONEY" the next year, due to the CBA.

Chad Hutchinson
Marcellus Wiley

To name a few Adam is the one that reported awhile back we would have the same kind of money we had last year around 20 mil.

Here's a summary: We are in good cap shape and will be able to do pretty much whatever we want this off-season.

We will save 4.5 million by letting Glover go. About 2 million for Elllis. Rivera will put us in the hole 8 million dollars. We are stuck with him for at least 2 more years. We will also save about 2 million by trading or releasing Allen. Maybe he will restrucutre though.

As of late November Dallas is 6 million under but I am not sure about right now.

The NFL Salary Cap was $85,500,000 million for 2005
The NFL Salary Cap is $98,500,000 million for 2006

Difference of 13 million.

"But like Adam said when you roll the money from this year and unearned bonus money we should be around 10 million."

Gives us another 4 million.

Add it up and we are at 23 mil

Here is the thread Adam talks about our cap situation;

Here's our current cap situation. Note that the "dead money" includes some amounts from previous contracts of players currently on the roster or practice squad (players who were cut and re-signed).

Also, Price has $700,000 in NLTBE incentives based on the number of catches and yards he gets. I don't have the specifics, but it would have to be at least 46 catches and/or at least 576 yards, since he had 45 for 575 yards last year.

Norm is outlining two personnel moves we can make in this off-season that could see us as much as 35M under the cap next year. Says we are in exceptional shape for next season. When I hear the moves, I will post.

I think we keep;
Larry Allen $6,563,063
Flozell Adams $5,905,280

Maybe they restructure their contracts maybe they don't.

We will probably get rid of trade etc;
La'Roi Glover $5,204,840
Greg Ellis $3,155,280
Al Singleton $2,279,840

There was one about two weeks ago that had next years projected cap number and some of the teams where listed they had us about 5 million under the cap. Adam then posted that with NLTBE bonuses and rolled over cap we should be around 10 million under he also mentioned a few players reworking their contracts.
