Or how good our lb core could be, the depth is nuts and the starters are all young full of potential. Bradie james was beyond solid last year and he even made the loss of nyguen that much more bearable. Dware is Dware he seemed confused alot and didnt show up in acouple games sack wise, but he was always very close to the quarterback im looking to this supposed added weight to help him alot! bobby carpenter is still undecided but shows promise, i hope he pans out. Akin ayodel is a great linebacker just ask any jaguar fane, he is amazingly consistant and a sure tackler. imagine we will have these linebackers for the next 8 years they can be amazing. so do you realise?

Exactly. That was one of our weak points toward the end of the season. Now it'll be very strong. I think the only position we have to worry about is FS, and many, many competitions can only make the winner better.

I think we can look to two ares where we should be much improved. Depth and the Rush. Bill has said we only have 2 rushers, but i know he's downplaying Carp, because he's a rook, but he was the best pass rusher at the LB possition in the 2006 draft. He will help, plus the fact Ware should be a much better player and if he stays healthy could be a 12 sack guy. The onny question remains, will Ellis shut up and play?? My guess is when it comes time to miss pay checks, he will be there. I'm also looking for the improvement of that young DL to help more this year. All in all we should get more production out of the LB group.

On paper, we have the potential to be much better at LB and on the D-line than we have seen in Dallas for quite a few years.

But a lot of that is truly unrealized potential at this point.

Carpenter & Burnett are completely unproven though highly thought of. Akin hasn't played 3-4 before. Ware and James (along with Singleton) are the "proven" commodities at LB. I'm not bad-mouthing, just exercising caution.

On the D-line Ferguson is the only real given. Lots of excitement surrounding Spears, Canty, Ratliff, Hatcher, Stanley etc., but again its hard to really know what we'll get from all that. To a lesser degree Ellis new position renders him somewhat a question mark too.

Yeah, on paper... I am psyched. Just trying to temper it a bit for now. But I agree... WOW!

definitely liking our LB corps a lot. I'd really like to see Burnett come back and play as well as I know he can. I thought he was a gem when we got him as he was a beast in college.
Ironic how much we spent on the LB corps this offseason considering how its traditionally been a position, much like kicker, that we refused to pay anyone at and ignored in the offseason for the most part.
I still remember thinking *** on letting Godfrey walk.

I disagree with not knowing what we'll get from Spears and Canty. They were good last year, in spite of being rookies that were either injured or coming off of injuries. They are both healthy, stronger, smarter, and more ready for the pro game. Barring injuries, they will be very solid players this season.

We improved a ton this year. I think I'm as excited about our defense as anything else this year...

I like the defense. Period.

Now, if we'd just let them "go"...be more attacking...

Last season, with Ware and the kids on the D-line, I understand there was a need to play it a bit more conservatively...

But I truly hope, this season, we take the training wheels off...

It's a young defense...it can have an impact on the game beyond their time on the field...It can charge up the crowd....the offense...and hey, maybe even the head coach.

Barring catastrophic injuries to the likes of Newman, Williams, and Ware, there really should be no excuse for Mike Zimmer this year. This defence needs to dominate.
