Everyone concentrates on SF but these turnarounds happened in Atlanta and other places. Mike Smith was a rookie coach with a rookie QB and they had just gone through a QB being arrested, a coach quitting and all kinds of strife and somehow they ended up turning it around.

SF had SOME talent but 1st round doesn't always equal automatic great player. Crabtree and Davis were considered busts.

Colts last year. Rookie QB and an aging roster

Yet somehow our team needs and 18th year of patience because JG had nothing...despite saying Romo is a franchise QB. Somehow when it comes to the Boys its "Landry needed time." But these other teams..."they were already set." I get it.

Overall, these turnarounds can happen without the excuses. If you think JG is that guy, that is fine by me. He is a professional, good man. I don't think he is a great coach but would love for him to prove me wrong. Let's just not make excuses for why it hasn't happened yet when others are getting it done.

Well for that matter, everyone concentrates (naturally enough) on teams that have success with HC changes, but what about the many more instances where it hasn’t worked?

I agree completely. And that just shows that it can work, but its not a given. Just like there are many more failures regarding coaches that started out slow and never did much vs. Landry and Belicheck...guys needing more time. So that is where you have to weigh what you are seeing. At least with Garrett both sides can make an intelligent argument. As I've said, I think he holds us back but since I respect him so much, I get why people might want to see him stick around to right the ship. My point above is that there have been recent turnarounds where patience wasn't needed.

Turnarounds can and do happen quickly however that doesn’t seem to happen in Dallas where we’re on our 5th HC in 17 years, so maybe a different tack is needed.

In addition a quick turnaround is great but how long can you sustain it?

Arizona went to the Super Bowl in 2009 but quickly reverted back to form.

I’d like to see something built for the long term.

Dallas is one of the cases that it hasn't worked. I think we all concentrate on this example.
