The draft is coming. And, while I understand that the good teams are the ones who use the draft as a long-term investment tool to keep rotating in eventual starters and solid depth on cheap non-free agent contracts, I am also one of the people that see the writing on the wall.

2015 is a year in which the Dallas Cowboys are Super Bowl contenders.

Furthermore, it won't be like this for long. Tony Romo is getting up there in age, and, while contractually I don't see any way to go away from him this year or next year, it is entirely possible that, starting in 2017, we are trying our luck with a new QB. Throw in the other inconvenient truth that our offensive line will NEVER be a better value than it is right now. Soon, the three rookie deals will dry up, we will be faced with the expensive part of Tyron Smith's contract, and Doug Free will eventually start declining due to age, making his contract increasingly less of a value

Suffice it to say that, while I want our first-round pick to be someone that, like Dez Bryant, grows into a role as an elite difference-maker, I also want said first-round pick to make an immediate impact. This team isn't perfect, and many mock drafts are being fielded by pundits and Cowboys fans alike that anticipate utilizing our first-round pick - whomever it is - right away and having him contribute in his rookie season.

Factoring in this as my mindset, also consider two things that I have come to notice:

1) Linebackers seem like they ALWAYS win Defensive Rookie of the Year, whereas linebackers rarely earn Defensive Player of the Year.
2) Any fantasy football player knows that the best time to buy low on a wide receiver is when he is hitting the third year of his career, because history tends to show that that is the year the WR will "break out".

Without reading, I can tell you the positions usually needing the least time are RBs and ILBs.
Ironically, we have a need at both--especially if don't sign McClain--and this years draft has some good options
