Does JJ trade down in this year's Draft?

Jerry Jones has made a career of trading down. He believes he and his scouts can find the diamonds in the rough in every draft class. Considering the depth of talent in this draft I'm curious to get the opinion of the zoners.

What are the chances JJ trades down out of the first pick.

I think we'll end up with 2 2nd's and a third for our first or some such annoyance.

I think we stay put at 27

my gut says trade up some and grab a couple talented guys. We still have some players from last draft that wants to compete, maybe one or two FA signings, and than 3 glaring spots on the team that can be addressed thru the draft.

I really think it should be a boring offseason with all the work being done in the TC and offseason.

If Iupati is not there, I would love to see them trade down and grab Nate Allen and Ducasse in round two.

That's just me, though! :)

Nobody knows. Probably not even at Valley Ranch (yet).

While last year seemed to be more about adding quantity, depth, blue-collar types, I have a feeling this year Dallas will stress quality over quantity. But this is supposed to be a deep draft, so ya never know.

I agree. I have no problem of trading out of the 1st but if we do I would hope it would be in the upper half of the 2nd rd not a late 2nd to go along with our own late 2nd.

I think Jerry and the scouting staff and coaches have finally learned in the past few years that you do not predetermine what you're going to do before the draft. You see how it unfolds, then react accordingly. He and staff have done that more often lately and it makes sense to continue to be smart.

I think they were looking at Unger last year and almost got him, but when he got picked two slots ahead of our pick we traded down and got both Brewster and V. Butler with that Rd 2 pick.

The Cowboys actually traded up the year before in the 1st round becasue they were(I think) afraid San Diego or maybe Houston would take Mike Jenkins. They reacted to the draft board and made their move accordingly.

I wouldn't mind it one bit. I love trading down in most situations.

yes, trade down! That is how you end up with a draft class where a quarter of your picks don't make the roster.

Great point. You can get too cute and really miss out on the stars.

We used the trade back approach perfectly when Jimmy was here. That was effective because Jimmy was implementing a defense that wasn't common in the NFL at the time (a real focus on speed over size). Now, we aren't looking for things that other teams don't want, so trading back isn't all that great an approach. Me, I'd rather move up and leave the draft with 5 players rather than 8 or 9.

I'm not sure I'd decare our trading back in recent history to be a success or failure. But if the value isn't there, it should be an obvious choice. Trading back or trading up doesn't determine how good your draft is, the scouting does. And if the scouting's bad, it doesn't matter where you draft.

I'm always for trading down. It especially makes sense this year because our positions of needs are considered to be very deep w/ talent.

Oh this is the classic Jerry trade down.

"Um, um...well I don't mean to be trite but...um...um we felt the players at the top of the draft (Jerry raises his left eyebrow), was equal to or close to the TALENT at the top/middle of the 2nd round. I like what we've done here. I like what we've done for the Dallas Cowboys."

Yep. If anything, we should be moving up to get a few impact players. We don't need a major churn at the bottom.

And in this draft its highly likely the value will be there. Hopefully enough value that at least we will get big offers from other teams if we want to trade out.

Diamonds in the rough! Would Kavika Pittman, Quincy Carter and Martellus Bennett be considerd diamonds in the rough? If so, trade up!

That may be true, I don't know. Usually its not at the very tail end of the 1st round, though.
