I think we might like to keep Marinelli -- but Jerry really, I think sees his offense as being the real selling point here. We have some real talent there. I'd expect he wants a coach to bring a high powered offense so I'd expect Holmgren or Gruden in the mix

rather have horton to rebuild the defense. and a new OC to clean up the few problems we have on offense. mainly the times we run the ball and 3rd down conversions

Do we really want to keep Kiffin/Marinelli? If getting Lovie means keeping the architects of maybe the worst defense ever - I'll pass.

I think Kiffen has to go no matter what. But Marinelli has been Lovie's DC in Chicago and their D was very good. It can't be every DC, it has to be the HC that instills discipline and toughness in a team. We have neither at this point.

Lovie won't bring that either. He's softer than Campo. The ONLY coach I'd choose him over is Lane Kiffin.

He brings us NOTHING

I would do a clean sweep. Hire a guy and let him choose his staff.

Lovie is not my first choice but that Bears team under him was never soft. They were always without a QB and a real OC IMO. This is not a campaign for him, just throwing out possibilities. If Jerry has so much respect for these guys it may sway him. My list would be
1. David Shaw (Stanford)
2. Obrien (Penn St)
3. Holmgren
4. Gruden
5. Briles
6. Lovie

What's it going to be then, eh?

Could have had Horton if Jones had waited out Arians and not listened to Larry Lacewell.

Not Jerry Jones' style.

In fact, unless I am mistaken he has never cleaned house. The closest he ever came was Parcells. But he still encouraged him to keep Zimmer.

How bout Gruden and Holmgren. Jerry can be GM in name only, but Holmgren works as GM, and Gruden HC.

Lovie Smith or Bill O'Brien will be the Texans coach so that is going to eliminate one.

Smith isn't soft either. Hard behind closed doors. I'm not sold on him though because he is pretty stubborn. Stubborn sticking with QBs, sticking with Olines, etc. Players love him and respect him and his Ds are good but I just think you are getting some of what you don't like now. Plusses are getting to SBs with subpar talent.

Lovie is a great coach, so I wouldn't hate it. However, our best chance to win son is through Romo. As such, i hope we hire an offensive guy. With new ideas

No.

Jerry hires the coaches and how Jerry looks at it is like this.

Offense: whoever can generate yards and scores best. Now recently decrease turnovers.

Defense: whoever can minimize yardage and scores best. Now recently generate turnovers.

ST's: whoever can give best field position by advancing the ball when it's our time to receive and/or minimizing advancement of our opposition when it's their turn to receive possession.

Now all of that makes sense and should be in consideration. But what GM Jones seems to not integrate in his coaching staffs is an approach that all sides of the ball have to lead only to the HC.

See Jones doesn't let the HC pick the whole staff through and therefore there is never unity between all the facets to help one another ultimately throughout the game. It's been like that since Parcells left and was like that until Parcells got here since Jimmy got pushed out.

The Offense and Defense have to collectively play together within game conditions in support of ST's to ultimately win the game. Jerry doesn't build coaching staffs to do that.

So why would he go Lovie? More likely Gruden and that won't be the case cause then both of those guys would most likely control that whole coaching staff. Jerry does not one person other than himself controlling anything on this team.

I don't want to keep Kiffen, so if Marinelli has to go to accomplish that then so be it. Offensively, I would like a revolutionary coach that will introduce the radical new concept of running the football when the situation screams for it and the offensive line is blowing up the other team's defense. If he could also somehow kick Jerry in the nads in public view, that would certainly win points as well.
