Does Romo not pay attention to the game clock?

I just remembered that at the end of the 3rd quarter against the Giants, we wanted to get in one last play before the quarter ended. Romo snapped the ball about a second too late. In the first(maybe it was 3rd?) quarter against the Panthers, we wanted to run a play before the quarter ended. Once again he snapped the ball too late.

In practice, Romo has to get this fixed. He needs to always be aware of the game and play clock especially late in the game.

Lots of things to pay attention to. He's trying to read the defense at the time and probably only takes a couple glances at the clock. He'll get more comfortable as he plays more, but it isn't exactly a problem at the moment.

You see something like this happen all the time with all quarterbacks ... not just to Romo.

I know I might be too hard on him, but it's frustrating when everyone is set, and we miss the play by a second.

Then I have to endure another commercial break :p

If it were that much of a problem, wouldn't there have been multiple delay of game penalties?

I'm referring to the game clock, not the play clock.

I did read somewhere that BP said ROMO needs to work on his time management but did not get specific

I think these are the areas that BP meant when he said he had some game management issues to work out with him.

I would think that this has something to do with it since he has not been put in any real 2 minute situations or a situation where we need to run out the clock.

When your a fresh out there in a game, there's alot of things Romo's trying to do, before he snaps the ball.

Can he learn yes

But i would so rather him let the quarter end, then snap the ball and make a turnover, because he didnt take teh time he needed to make the proper reads and calls

He is not going to do everything perfect in his first game... come on....

Look at Andy and Donovan... still cant get it right... in SB and a few times this year

Romo looks good, so far, but this concern is legitimate. Romo has not let the game clock run out on him routinely, but he seems to be a little slow getting under center. Maybe that is by design. Maybe it is because they were starting the play clock quicker than norman the last game. I did notice the play clock getting very short routinely on the Panthers game.

He's not slow getting under center. He gets there quick and spends 5+ seconds reading the defense and calling out assignments/audibles. He hasn't had a delay of game penalty yet, so I don't see how it's a cause for concern.

Tomato, tomato .... potato, potato (or vice versa)

If it is by design, I am all for Romo. If it is unintentional, it is going to bite him at some point. Maybe it is due to the play getting sent in late. Who knows, but the original poster's point is valid in my mind.

Just because the commentators wanted Romo to call another play, doesn't mean that Parcells did.

Parcells said Romo needs to do a better job of GAME management, not time management...

Either way, the Kid did a nice job.

There was no need to get into a rush down by the endzone, I'd rather Romo make sure what he is seeing before the snap of the ball over just running a play to beat the clock.

I love the way Romo comes to the line in plenty of time to assess the D, point out key issues, adjust as necessary etc. If he's not a seasoned vet on those things he's doing a pretty good imitation to the admittedly untrained eye.

He gives a totally different feel to countering what the D is showing than Bledsoe ever did.

As far as clock management at the end of the 3rd quarter goes... Uhhhh, I'd rather, if he needs it, give him the time necessary to make the play effective rather than rush it to get it in the 3rd quarter.

Its quite impressive how savvy Romo looks given his lack of experience in regular season games. Hope he keeps it up.

As others have said.. letting the quarter clock run out is something you see a lot. Brady did that last night. Get up to the line and then not having enough left.

And I think in regards to BP's comments on management, it might have something to do with screwing around too long getting into and out of the huddle.. and then that causing there to be less time than ideal left on the playclock. It happend a lot the other night and at first I was thinking the staff had to get the plays in quicker.. but maybe that wasnt the problem
