Does the overconfidence by 'Boys fans worry anyone else?

Okay, I'll start off by saying that I was stoked by our win at Carolina. I was even happier about Romo's performance and by how the team appears to be gelling.

However, let's be realistic - Carolina hasn't been that good this year. They've had virtually no offense and their defense has merely been mediocre. Not to take anything away from this win, but again, we need to put it in perspective.

Also, yes, Romo had a great game. Yes, Washington has been downright sorry this year and the Cardinals have been even worse. However these are by no means guaranteed wins. We've seen Romo play well in one start. Will he be consistent for another two weeks on the road? Any division game is tough, playing it in Washington is even tougher, no matter how bad the Skins are from year to year. And the Cardinals are still a football team. There's a reason they go out and actually play the games. I mean, they did nearly beat the Bears this year...

I just think a little level-headedness would be very wise. I've seen the Cowboys disappoint me too many times over the past 10 years to get excited just yet. If we get to 6-3 and Romo plays well in both games will I be ready to get as excited as I'd like to be, but not yet, not after one game.

Carolina won 4 of their last 5 coming into that game... They beat Baltimore in Baltimore and nearly beat Cincy @ Cincy.

It was a quality win, don't try to downplay it.

No because it is irrelevent to the outcome of the season. Speculate all of it to death, only Sunday matters.

The point is that this over exuberance is not justified, so take a valium and settle down.

2nd above comments--only matters if the players and coaches are overconfident. We Cowboy fans have no right to be overconfident. Our team has been mediocre so far this year and, while Romo looked good in his first starting NFL performance, the NFL season is a maratheon and we must win more games (including beating Skins & Cards) before even thinking about any game as an automatic win. While I'm now excited about Cowboys again, something I stopped being after Eagle game and sent into depression by Giants play, reality is we only 4-3 and probably could have been 5-2 w/better QB etc. Will be lot happier after winning next 2 road games but will we?

Why would fan overconfidence affect the outcome of the game? Jinx?

We didn't take the lead until the 4th quarter. The Panthers made a lot of mistakes on special teams that ultimately lost the game for them . The Cowboys played well, but if the Panthers had made fewer mistakes the game would have remained close. The best thing was we didn't quit as a team and the Cowboys had shown some signs of quitting when adversity struck earlier this season.

It was an important win, but this team needs to develop some consistency now.

It will affect the outcome of this board, should we lose. The Gnashing and Wailing will reach record levels based on overconfidence.

Of course you're right that we have no effect on the game.

What do I predict? A solid Cowboys victory. But all the while I keep in the back of my mind the possibility of losing to the Commanders. If that should come to pass, I will not Gnash, Wail, Rend my garments, or call for the heads of half the team and coaches.

I live in DC.....this is the Commanders Super Bowl...they know they will not make the playoffs....Gibbs is playing Brunell because he wants to give the fans something to feel good about before they stick the kid Campbell in and suffer through a tough stretch....this game will be harder than the Panthers game

I disagree.

What you've described is the way this should work but the Commanders themselves are in a deceptively bad situation-- they're still in denial and confused, rather than angry and vengeful. They can't quite put their finger on what has gone wrong and what can be done to fix their slump.

In other words, they haven't hit rock bottom yet when the fantasies of another year-end streak are dashed, when they realize they're not going to make this system work with the players they have, etc. I get the feeling that the Cowboys have a special opportunity: to be the team that forces the Skins into the bottom of the rocks.

I predict a butt kicking.

I agree in the sense that I also do not believe we have beaten a good football team yet....but, I have my sights on the Colts

:laugh1: :lmao2: :lmao: I needed a good morning laugh. Thanks

On a cereal note...

Fans on this board really do not have any bearing on the outcome of a game. So the only thing that really can be said about fans here being over estimating about the boys is if we lose and they go buck wild crazy and acting a fool on the board.

I think this will be a tough game...
The Skins know this is their season and they're against the wall with their biggest, most hated rival coming to town.
What I expect us to do is to try to just run it down their throats, which will also help Romo manage the game. Some other team this year just ran it down Wash's throats and they couldn't do a thing about it. If our OL blocks like it did last game, we should be able to run it at will.
If we're able to do that, their offense will have a ton of 3 and outs and the game will be over before the end of the 3rd qrtr. IF.....
That's how I see it.
ORRRRR, we'll make a mistake and let them score early which will get them fired up at home and it will be a dogfight until the end. I prefer the other scenario.

It was indeed a quality win, but which offensive line will we see from week to week? The one that protected lights-out against Carolina-- or the sieve that faced the Eagles?

What happens when a team good at blitzing DB's and LB's (i.e. most teams except Carolina) attacks the Cowboy passing game?

Romo is going to have to continue to elevate the level of play of his teammates; here's where our offensive coaches earn their pay.

Don't confuse fans over confidence with the team. I'm sure BP is keeping this team from getting over confident. As big as the win against Carolina was I think this team realizes they still have a lot to prove
