Does the Randy G. suspension change us from signing Greg Hardy?

Surprised Bosa's positive drug test and suspension hasn't affected his draft stock because every mock I've seen has him going in the top 5.

im sure it will be brought up closer to the draft or even after the combine. especially after Gregory just got his suspension.

Agree Gregory's suspension is sure to bring more of a focus on Bosa's suspension as we near the draft. It's definitely going to scare some teams especially the Cowboys.

Hardy isn't gone yet and there are absolutely ZERO reasons to cut Gregory.

His under contract for 3 very cheap years. If anything you siphon out every last bit of talent out of him and then you let him go. Throwing away a talent as a punishment just makes you feel better for a minute, then you see NE pick him up and that "Oh Crap" feeling washes over your body.

Cutting him would make me feel worse but you can't cut the guy

I'm not saying cut him it's up to the team what they want to do. He assured the Cowboys the drugs were behind him and he just let the organization down. We gave him an opportunity when other teams were passing him up and when you bring in a player who's had drug issues they can't be under the impression that one failed drug test is going to be allowed. If the Cowboys were to move on from Gregory it wouldn't be about punishment it would be about sending a message that we're willing to give a player a chance who's made a mistake but it's only going to be one chance.

You can't bring players in who've had drug issues leading them to believe they're going to be allowed one failed test. There has to be a zero tolerance policy with this. As for throwing away a talent Gregory is the one doing that. It didn't take him long before his first NFL suspension. Any player who has a drug issue that gets money in their hands it's going to be hard to stop it. He has a serious problem with substance abuse and rehab doesn't always stop it.

Maybe but still doesn't qualify to take a left defensive end at 4. Same as you wouldn't take a right tackle at 4.

I don't know. I'm not saying Bosa will be the next J.J. Watt, but if you had a chance to get that kind of player in your draft, wouldn't you do it?

Now, I didn't know about Bosa's drug issues so that might keep Dallas away, even if it was considering him.

I'm not hemmed in on the draft. Dallas needs more top-of-the-line players on this team and has a chance to get one at No. 4. Whether that's a DE, a CB/FS, a QB, an LB or a DT doesn't matter to me as long as that player is a long-term answer for one of the positions where we need to get better. I don't know why so many wedge themselves into a position where they feel their team has to draft a certain player. It just sets them up to be disappointed with the draft. Just give me somebody who can help the team.

Same thing with free agency. We've got some holes to fill. Who can best fill those holes is debatable.

Why would we draft a Strong side defensive end at 4? We already have Tank on the strong side.

they need a strong rotation, and Hardy and Bosa have something in common, they can move inside for a play or two

Bosa got suspended in college for drugs and was forced by his parents to live like a hermit because he couldn't avoid the temptations of college football.

well, despite my personal feeling that teams like Ohio State pay their players (that is a discussion for another thread), Bosa hasn't been paid by an NFL team yet...perhaps he learned from his kid-like issues and will not resort to the childish this again once he is employed and now that he is growing up a little more - if his parents did that, then he has good influences in his life...obviously Gregory can't stop, and that reeks of different issues

It all boils down to personal ability to deal with temptations...whether work out intensity, diet, social integration...or drugs.

no argument from me...but, while I am going with what another posted said in here about his parents getting involved, he has THAT working in his favor...Gregory likely didn't have that and thus, he continues to make these personal mistakes...where are the Calvin Hill types to step in and mentor this kid???

If we end up with Vernon Butler in the 2nd or Hassan Ridgway in the 3rd, then we won't need Hardy or Bosa to move inside due to both DTs being 3 down players. Also we still have David Irving who showed big potential while still producing this past season.

Sign a vet DE to rotate at both weak and strong side and try to get Randy Gregory on the right path so this doesn't happen again. No need to give up so soon. He has killed a lot of trust tho but he can earn it back. If he doesn't then oh well. Get the most out of his remaining 3 dirt cheap years.

This team needs to rid itself of its losers rather than spending good money after bad. At some point good sense should take over. Is that asking too much?

Agreed.

Right after the team has their most current gamble blow up in their face people are stumbling over themselves to double down on another stupid signing (or re-signing). Unreal.

Battered fan syndrome. Oh, please let me down. Please just crush my dreams and disappoint me.

The Cowboys presently need two defensive tackles, two defensive ends, and two cornerbacks...from free agency and the draft.

Gregory hadn't been paid yet either when he failed his test in college. And Manziel's parents are supportive although their kid is hopeless. I just don't see it as a good thing that Bosa needs to shelter himself in order to stay out of trouble. Who knows? Maybe it worked. But the fact that there are doubts about his ability to stay clean makes him no safer of a pick than Gregory was.

It happened. Here's a link to the story about Bosa's 2015 lifestyle after failing a 2014 drug test.

It's scary how stupid some of these players are.

Stop smoking weed and we'll pay you millions. So he goes and smokes weed.

It doesn't get much stupider than that.

I agree. Unfortunately I completely disagree with weed being illegal in any aspect. But it is, and that's the rules. If you want to play....don't smoke. That simple.

.....but you can take as many pain killers as you want.

Bad system, but it IS the system.

I really question if the Cartel could exist strictly on hard drugs?
