Does Tony Romo have a chance to win MVP?

If we go say 12-4 or better and Romo puts up MVP numbers (which he will if we go 12-4 or better), do you think he has a legitimate chance to win MVP? Is the bad perception of him to much that it would be impossible for him to win it? Is he simply not good enough to win it? What's your guys thoughts on this?

You can flame me all you want for talking about this as I know sensitive fans will get upset over people trying to discuss Romo and individual accomplishments, if you don't have interest in this topic then don't post. Thanks!

I believe he has a very outside shot of winning MVP, if we are one of the best teams in the conference and he puts up MVP numbers I can definitely see the media jumping on the Romo bandwagon despite their current negative perception of him.

romo should definitely be able to put up mvp numbers this year but it just depends on what other guys have career years too like bradys 50tds

Media perception can and will change overnight. All it takes is winning. Joe Flacco was a mediocre game managing QB until he won the Super Bowl.

Of course he does. Not like anyone in the media has to admit they were wrong about him, they'll simply say he has learned from his past mistakes and is playing much smarter ball now. Romo has always had an MVP in him, just a matter of putting a team around him. Hopefully, we have that now. Or will soon.

No crap now Matt Ryans elite too!?! Its lame

Except Matt Ryan hasn't won anything either, what 1 playoff game, same as Romo? He's gets much more cred but give me Romo over Ryan anyday. And that's the beauty about football, perception and bias is one thing, but they all ultimately have to play the games. I think Romo is a FAR better QB than Ryan and I think that ulimately, their careers will prove that to be true. I see much more playoff success for Romo in the years ahead than I do for Ryan. He just doesn't have "it."

3, 2, 1....and we are off! I can almost already know who is going to post in this thread.

Haha I'm sorry for what I may have or may have not started, just an interesting topic to me that I wanted to see others opinions. Basically whenever I have an interesting conversation with one of my real life friends in regards to the Cowboys, I feel that I have to share the topic with CZ so you guys have some stuff to debate about. After all, that is the point of these forums right? ;)

He could win it if as you say, he has the record and the stats. The banter about him now would work in his favor in that scenario because they would say (as someone already stated in this thread) that he improved, got smarter and made less mistakes blah blah blah.

I agree It bugs me. Ryan is not elite. Romo is one of the best easily. I get tired of everybody saying your not good with out hardware. He does need some playoff wins though. So I guess Stockton and Malone werent that great either!! Lol this is why I want him to win the sb just so people will stop. It would be a huge shame if Romo as good as he is never does!!!!

Can Romo win the MVP? Sure why not....if Dallas goes 12-4 and Romo has elite numbers.

But the same goes for any QB in the NFL from Geno Smith to Aaron Rodgers. So its nothing earth shattering.

As for media perception changing.... see Joe Flacco, Peyton Manning and even as far back as John Elway.

It cld also go the other way too...just ask Mark Sanchez.

not likely. the well has been far too poisoned to remedy in a single year.

No way can Romo win the MVP. He can't even break the Top 100 Players on NFL Network.

Does he have a chance? Yes, an outside chance, but still a chance nonetheless.

With Brady, Peyton, and Rodgers all in the same era it's going to be very hard for someone else to win the MVP, especially with Rodgers playing the way he is. Since 2007 only one other person besides those 3 have won MVP, and that person was Adrian Peterson who won it last year, because he had one of the best years for a RB in NFL history.

For Romo to win the MVP Dallas will have to make the playoffs at 10-6 or better, and Romo will also have to significantly out play any other QB in the league. For example, if Romo and Brady both have career years this year, but Romo barely outplayed him, the MVP would still go to Brady. Romo would have to greatly out play the surrounding competition, because his media perception is just so negative.

Who cares about the MVP though, just give me a Super Bowl and i'll be happy. That's not asking for too much is it? :D

If he wins, he will be treated like a king. Simple as that.

True, the strange thing about this is that every single player I have seen on NFL Network that gets asked about Romo always has great things to say about him. Players in our division, retired greats, and the the very good players seem to acknowledge how Romo is underrated and should be top 100, but the media puts on random scrubs who I have never heard of that blast Romo. Charles Woodson, Charles Tillman, and Roddy White all agreed that Romo deserved to be in the top 100 over a guy like Flacco despite winning the Super Bowl. What bugs me is if all these people are publicly saying that Romo should be in the top 100, then who exactly voted on this thing???

About 20 no name players from about 5 different teams in the NFL. They really nailed the sample size with this list, I don't think they could've gotten more people if they even tried. :D

Even having better stats than other QBs in the league doesn't guarantee anything. Rodgers threw for 39 TDs vs only 9 interceptions and led the league in QB rating (108) and he wasn't even in the Top 3 of MVP voting.
